“If you can’t buy it twice, you can’t afford it,” she explains, quoting Jay Z to emphasise her point.
She is currently developing an investment policy for 2026 and wants to live by principles that encourage long-term planning. Just Ivy explains that many people overlook the hidden costs of big decisions.
“If you can’t afford a wedding and the marriage, you can’t afford the wedding,” she says, pointing out that celebrations are just the beginning.
Another area she highlights is housing. Many people focus only on monthly rent but ignore deposits, emergencies, or unexpected repairs.
“If you are moving to a new apartment, if you can’t afford the rent twice, then you can’t afford that apartment,” Just Ivy notes. She stresses that careful financial planning prevents stress and instability.
Financial lessons for everyday life
Just Ivy extends the same principle to business ventures. Starting a business can be exciting, but without a backup plan, failure can be catastrophic.
“If you start a business and you can’t afford to lose the capital twice, you can’t afford that business,” she warned and urged entrepreneurs to calculate worst-case scenarios before taking risks.
Children are another area where this rule applies. Raising a child requires more than love; it requires resources for school, health, clothing, and other necessities.
“If you can’t afford two kids, then you can’t afford the one,” Just Ivy says, emphasising that financial preparedness is essential for responsible parenting.
She also discusses relocation, noting that moving countries involves more than immediate expenses.
“If you can’t afford the relocation, and have 3 months’ runway, you can’t afford the relocation,” she explains.
Just Ivy encourages people to plan thoroughly for large life changes rather than acting impulsively.
