Janet Mbugua questions how people are still spending despite tough times

Media personality Janet Mbugua has raised questions about how people are still spending despite claims that times are tough.

She pointed out that even as many say money is tight, daily life continues with travel, outings and plans going on as usual. She explained that the situation has made her curious about how people are managing financially.

She said the contrast between what people say and what is happening around them does not add up. She explained that many continue to live actively, with social places remaining busy and people making plans. She added that this has led her to reflect on what could be driving this trend.

“I have a genuine question… how are people making money right now?” Janet Mbugua asked on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

She explained that the issue is not just about one clear source of income. She said it appears people are using different ways to sustain their lifestyles without openly discussing them. She added that the pattern is not easy to define but is visible in everyday life.

“Because we keep saying things are tight, but life is still very much… happening. People are travelling, outside is full, plans are being made… so what exactly is going on?” Janet Mbugua said.

She said the situation suggests that people may be adapting in quiet and creative ways. She explained that individuals could be combining different income streams or strategies to stay afloat. She added that this approach may not be obvious, but it seems to be working for many.

“You start to realise it is not one obvious thing. It’s a bit of this, a bit of that… people just moving smart, quietly figuring things out,” Janet Mbugua said.

She explained that observing others can lead to personal reflection. She said it makes one question one’s own situation and consider whether there is something they might not be doing. She added that this thought does not come from pressure but from curiosity.

“But then you look at your own life like… okay, what am I missing?” Janet Mbugua said.

She said her thoughts are not driven by stress but by a simple need to understand what is happening. She explained that the situation feels unusual and worth thinking about. She added that the pattern points to something changing in how people handle money.
