Janet Mbugua backs ‘Niko Kadi’ initiative with powerful message
Renowned media personality Janet Mbugua has backed the Niko Kadi initiative with a powerful message.
In a statement on Facebook on Friday, March 20, 2026, Mbugua noted that civic challenge will enhance how the youth shape national conversations.
“Kenya has one of the youngest populations in the region, with a median age of just 21, and these youth voices are already shaping the national conversation in powerful ways. They speak out online, organise in their communities, challenge poor governance, and push back against exclusion and bad leadership,” reads the statement in part.
Rallying call and reflection
She emphasised the importance of registering as a voter, noting that political participation begins with readiness, and the ongoing Niko Kadi initiative aims to ensure that no eligible Kenyan is left behind.

“But for this political voice to truly be in its full potential, it must translate into institutional power. One of the clearest ways to achieve that is by ensuring every eligible young Kenyan is registered and prepared to vote. A generation that is vocal but absent from the voter roll weakens its own leverage. But a generation that is registered, informed, and ready becomes a force that cannot be ignored,” the statement added.
The statement shared by the award-winning journalist urged Kenyans to pause and reflect on their readiness to take part in elections.
“This is why ‘Je, Uko Kadi?’ is more than a slogan. It is a civic challenge. It is a reminder that political participation begins with readiness. It asks every eligible Kenyan to pause and reflect: if elections were called tomorrow, would you be able to vote? If not, what are you waiting for?” It added.
Niko Kadi initiative

The Niko Kadi initiative was launched by Kenya’s youth in readiness for 2027, with celebrities and civil society also adding their voices to the compelling conversation that has dominated social media with the hashtag #NikoKadi trending.
