Home Box Office (HBO) has dropped the official Season 3 trailer for House of the Dragon, setting the stage for a darker, more violent chapter in the Targaryen civil war.

Released on Monday, April 27, 2026, the trailer confirms that the Dance of the Dragons has fully erupted into open warfare, with no side holding back.

Early teases from the creators describe it as a mix of intense drama, brutal action, and emotional fallout as the war for the Iron Throne reaches its most destructive phase.

The trailer opens with Daemon Targaryen pushing Rhaenyra forward in her claim to power, hinting at rising ambition and dangerous decisions.

Rhaenyra, now fully embracing her role as a ruler, declares her belief in her destiny to take the throne, signalling a shift from political tension to full confrontation.

On the opposing side, the Greens appear increasingly unstable. Aemond Targaryen is shown sitting uneasily on the Iron Throne, while King Aegon II is depicted recovering and plotting from the shadows.

The divide between the two factions is no longer political; it is personal, violent, and irreversible.

Dragons and destruction

One of the biggest highlights of the trailer is the long-anticipated Battle of the Gullet. Massive naval warfare unfolds alongside dragon combat, with ships burning and skies filled with fire.

The scale of destruction suggests this will be one of the most expensive and visually ambitious sequences in the series so far.

Quick flashes also show Daemon in battle armour, Cregan Stark mobilising Northern forces, and Corlys Velaryon warning that the war’s outcome now depends on hard decisions rather than diplomacy.

Beyond the battlefield, the trailer continues to explore fractured relationships and shifting loyalties. Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra’s strained history remains central, with both characters shown grappling with the cost of their choices.

Ser Criston Cole also returns with a grim warning of “doom and ruin,” reinforcing the idea that every faction is now fully committed to war with no clear path back.

A kingdom on fire

Visually, the trailer leans heavily into chaos dragons soaring over burning cities, collapsing alliances, and brutal close-range combat. The tone is noticeably darker, with fewer political discussions and more immediate consequences of war.

Easter eggs suggest deeper involvement from key houses such as Stark and Hightower, while hints of new dragon riders point to even larger conflicts ahead.

The new season premieres on June 21, 2026, and will run for eight episodes.
