By , March 12, 2026

Activist Hanifa Adan has blasted the government over healthcare in the country after she was admitted to a local health facility for surgery.

Hanifa shared her personal hospital bill on X on Thursday, March 12, 2026, to prove that the Social Health Authority did not pay a single coin, contrary to claims that she said were being peddled by people whom she identified as government bloggers.

She gave a detailed breakdown of the entire bill and how it was settled, explaining that the cost of her treatment came to Ksh263,340.

Her insurance covered Ksh250,000 while she topped up the remaining amount to settle the bill following the surgery, which she hailed as life-changing.

“Hello, everyone. I said earlier that I wouldn’t go back and forth with government bloggers until I had the facts, and now I do. My total hospital bill was Ksh 263,340,” she declared in a statement on X on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

She made it clear that the Social Health Authority (SHA) did not pay anything.

“I personally covered the remaining Ksh 13,340. SHA did not pay for anything, and even if it had, that would not be a favour; it would simply be the system doing what it is meant to do. I have never come here to lie about my experience. I speak my truth, and I detest misinformation just as much as anyone else.

Hanifa blasts government

She accused the government of focusing on polishing its image instead of focusing on the real challenges that need urgent solutions.

Hanifa painted a clear picture of the mess in the country’s public healthcare system, insisting that ordinary people seeking treatment go through a nightmare in a system that has failed to serve their needs.

“Healthcare in this country is not something I joke about, because I have seen firsthand what ordinary people go through in public hospitals. Instead of addressing those realities, the government seems more focused on PR, trying to spin its way out of the crisis rather than ensuring that ordinary, vulnerable Kenyans are not stranded in hospitals because they cannot afford care.

She added that healthcare should not be a lottery, which works for some and fails others, saying that it should work for everyone.
