Gospel singer Ben Githae challenges preachers who confess to being bewitched or cursed

Revered Kikuyu gospel singer Ben Githae has questioned preachers who publicly confess to being bewitched or experiencing defeat in their ministries.

In a post shared on his Facebook page on Friday, February 6, 2026, Githae reflected on what he described as a worrying trend among some pastors who claim that external forces, including curses or spells, are to blame for setbacks in their spiritual work.

He noted that over the years, many artistes and individuals in the public eye have attributed personal challenges to interference from others, but he expressed concern about religious leaders doing the same.

“I am used to hearing people, even artists, confess that someone did something to diminish their success, while others say they were given something to drink or that something was put in their food,” he wrote.

Githae referenced a recent statement by a bishop who claimed certain pastors had given him money, resulting in the diminishing of his “star” and prompting him to step back from ministry.

He said that such admissions are rare, particularly in movies and media portrayals, where clergy are often depicted as overcoming persecution and challenges with faith and steadfast prayer.

“Recently, I was worried when I saw a certain bishop saying that there are certain pastors who gave him some money, and as a result, his star diminished. He went further and said that he has stopped doing anything to do with ministry because nothing is working for him. For many years, even in movies, I have never seen a clergyman confessing failure; in fact, they always win after every battle. Many years ago there was a popular Nigerian movie titled THE PRICE. The star of the movie was named Pastor Ken; he went through real wildness, persecution and tribulations, but he kept the faith by proclamation of the word of God and steadfast prayer,” the singer wrote.

The gospel singer went on to cite Biblical examples, including passages that promise victory for the righteous despite afflictions, and emphasised that believers can face sickness or financial challenges, but ultimate triumph is assured through Jesus.

He urged pastors and ministry leaders to remain resilient, warning that publicly confessing defeat could send the wrong message to congregants.

“My question this afternoon is: Are we now seeing half-baked, untested preachers confessing defeat more than faithful companions? I have been troubled a little, I have struggled, yet do you not believe the Word that says we shall trample serpents, the Word that says we are more than conquerors, and the one that says that no weapon forged against us shall prosper? We shall, by the end of everything, emerge victorious,” he wrote.

Githae also encouraged his followers to recognise the power of God over any adversities, stressing that no weapon forged against the faithful shall prosper.

“The Bible says, ‘Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them from all.’ This means you may go through poverty or sickness, but victory is assured in Jesus’ name. Imagine being under a pastor who confesses that he has been bewitched—what kind of guidance would that be? Now, you may say, ‘I am Kikuyu, so what do I know?’” he wrote.
