Family announces burial plans for singer Irene Robert as condolence contributions begin

The family of revered Tanzanian gospel singer Irene Robert has formally announced burial arrangements and condolence procedures following her sudden death in Dar es Salaam on March 20, 2026.
In a statement released by fellow gospel artiste Walter Chilambo on Sunday, March 22, 2026, the family outlined the plans for her final journey, while also calling on the gospel fraternity and the public to support the family during this period of mourning.
According to the statement, Irene Robert will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Sengerema, Mwanza region.
“The schedule to bid farewell to our beloved from Dar es Salaam will be announced. Our beloved will be laid to rest in Sengerema, Mwanza (Saturday – March 28, 2026). For more information, call +255 710 421 458. Walterchilambotz and EAEA Awards Inc,” the family revealed.

The family indicated that further details regarding the departure of her body from Dar es Salaam and the full funeral programme will be communicated in due course as preparations continue.
At the time of the announcement, her body was being preserved at Mwananyamala Hospital as logistical arrangements were ongoing.
“The family is still arranging the programme for saying goodbye to our beloved; continue to provide support (condolences). Updates will be given soon. The body of the deceased is still at Mwananyamala Hospital. For more details, call +255 710 421 458,” the statement added.
The statement also provided clear guidance on condolence contributions, separating support channels for different groups.
Members of the gospel music fraternity and stakeholders within the arts industry have been asked to send their contributions through Walter Chilambo via mobile money, with his contact provided for coordination.

Meanwhile, the general public and individuals who were impacted by Irene Robert’s ministry have been directed to send their support to her mother, Rebecca Jacob, through a separate mobile money contact listed in the announcement.

Chilambo noted that the family is still organising the full schedule for paying last respects, urging continued support as they finalise arrangements for the farewell.
He emphasised that updates on the viewing of the body and other funeral activities in Dar es Salaam will be shared once confirmed.
