Uhuru Park: Crowd erupts as Nigerian preacher Joshua Selman finally ministers at Rhema Feast
By Steve Ireri, September 3, 2026Highly anticipated Nigerian preacher Joshua Selman finally got his moment on the Rhema Feast stage on the evening of Thursday, September 3, 2026, receiving a rapturous welcome from the crowd gathered at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
As Selman made his way towards the stage, confetti was popped into the air while excited fans erupted into loud cheers and jubilant shouts, with others pulling out their phones to capture the highly anticipated appearance of the widely adored preacher.
The atmosphere grew increasingly electric as the preacher walked towards the stage, with worshippers waving, cheering and celebrating his arrival after eagerly waiting for his ministry at the ongoing Christian gathering.
Selman then led the gathering in an emotional prayer, interceding for Africa as the crowd joined him in prayer and responded with cheers and expressions of worship.
The Nigerian preacher later delivered a powerful sermon in which he also spoke in tongues while praying over Africa, before challenging Christians to remain anchored in their relationship with God rather than becoming consumed by the pursuit of ministry, greatness or public recognition.
Selman, who is the founder of Koinonia Global Ministries, used the biblical stories of Elijah and Nehemiah to urge believers to remember the foundation upon which their spiritual journeys should be built.
He cautioned against becoming so consumed by the work of ministry that one forgets the God who called them into that work, stressing that service should flow from love, passion and a genuine desire to know God.
“Do not just call Elijah the prophet. Always start with love, service and passion. It does not start with ministry. It does not start with the desire for greatness or the desire to be a celebrity,” Selman told the congregation.
He repeatedly emphasised the importance of God being at the centre of every believer’s journey, urging Christians not to alter what he described as the original pattern established by God.
“In the beginning, God. In the beginning, God. Not revelation. Do not change the formula. In the beginning,” he said, calling on believers to restore that pattern in their lives.
Selman went on to reflect on his own spiritual journey, revealing that when he began his walk with the Holy Spirit, his greatest interest was not in fulfilling a public calling but in knowing God more deeply.
“I was not so interested in fulfilling the call as I was in knowing Him. It is still so,” he said.
The preacher cautioned believers against measuring their relationship with God solely through the visible accomplishments that come from prayer, fasting or ministry, reminding them that intimacy with God should remain the ultimate priority.
“Whatever you see God has done, it is not only because of prayer and fasting. Always be interested in being in the presence of God,” Selman said.
He then turned to the biblical account of Nehemiah, using the construction of Jerusalem’s wall as an example of how even a noble assignment can become a distraction if it takes precedence over God.
“The building of the wall for Nehemiah was a noble project, but it should not replace the King,” he said.
Selman explained that believers can become so absorbed in completing the assignments placed before them that they forget the very God who gave them those assignments.
“You may focus so much and forget that the King who sent you wanted you to return to His presence,” he told the gathering.
He further warned that many people begin their spiritual journeys with the right intentions but gradually lose sight of their relationship with God as they become engrossed in their responsibilities and ambitions.
“There are many who started well but forgot that when the King sent them, they were meant to return back,” Selman said.
