Gachagua elated as newlywed grannies visit Wamunyoro
By Steve Ireri, July 5, 2026Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reflected on the transformation of his Wamunyoro home into what he described as a thriving social hub after hosting a newlywed couple and their family at his rural residence in Nyeri County.
In a statement shared on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Gachagua said the once little-known village of Wamunyoro had evolved beyond its political significance and was increasingly attracting Kenyans from different backgrounds for social engagements.
According to the former Deputy President, the village has become a meeting point where people from all walks of life gather to interact with him, his wife, Rev. Dorcas Rigathi, and members of the local community.
“Wamunyoro, a little-known village, has become a beehive of activities, not only as a political knob but also as a social hub! Kenyans from all walks of life gather here for social engagements with Rigathi Gachagua, Rev. Dorcas Rigathi, and the villagers,” he wrote.
This came after the DCP boss welcomed newlyweds Mr Charles Nguni Muriuki and Agnes Nduta Nguni, who visited the homestead accompanied by their children, grandchildren and a larger entourage.
Gachagua said the visit provided an opportunity for meaningful conversations centred on the importance of the family institution and its role in shaping society.
He noted that he and his guests discussed the family as the foundation upon which strong nations and communities are built, adding that stable families are essential for national development.
“This afternoon, we received a newlywed couple, Mr Charles Nguni Muriuki and Agnes Nduta Nguni, their children, grandchildren, as well as their entourage. We had fun. We discussed the family as a strong building block for great nations and societies,” Gachagua wrote.

The former Deputy President said he encouraged the couple to remain united and committed to one another, expressing the belief that strong marriages contribute to building stronger societies and a stronger nation.
He also challenged leaders to set a good example by respecting the family unit and promoting values that strengthen families rather than undermine them.
At the same time, Gachagua offered prayers for Kenyan families, asking God to bless and protect them.
“We encouraged the couple to remain strong as a family, as this begets a strong nation. Leaders must lead by example by respecting the family unit and upholding family values. May Almighty God bless our families and protect them,” he added.
Political destination
His remarks come as Wamunyoro continues to attract growing public attention following its emergence as one of Kenya’s most closely watched political destinations.
Located in Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County, Wamunyoro sits in the lush highlands bordering the Mount Kenya Forest and has traditionally been known as a quiet rural village surrounded by rolling green hills and cypress trees.
Since then, the former Deputy President has frequently hosted political leaders, religious figures, professionals, businesspeople and ordinary Kenyans at his Wamunyoro residence, turning the homestead into a key meeting point for consultations, political strategy sessions and community engagements.
The village has increasingly become associated with Gachagua’s political activities, with delegations from different parts of the country regularly travelling there to hold discussions with the former Deputy President ahead of future political developments.
