Eric Omondi celebrates as construction for rescue centre begins after 486KM walk

Eric Omondi has provided an update on the construction of a rescue centre following his successful walk from Nairobi to Mombasa, which saw him cover 486 kilometres to raise funds for the project.

In an update on his social media accounts on Monday, February 16, 2026, the philanthropist revealed that the construction of the rescue centre commenced on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

He hailed it as a dream coming to life, with the vision very much alive as the initiative inches closer to reality.

“TEAM SISI KWA SISI!!! The dream is finally coming to life. We broke ground yesterday. The vision is alive,” Omondi stated.

He added that the facility will have a warehouse, a rescue centre, two ambulances and a free secondary school to help those in need.

“We are Building 1. A WAREHOUSE 2.A RESCUE CENTRE 3. A FREE SECONDARY SCHOOL 4. TWO AMBULANCES,” Omondi added.

Appeal for more support

He appealed for more support, noting that every coin contributed brings the vision to reality and provided information through which well-wishers may provide their contributions.

“WE NEED ALL THE SUPPORT WE CAN GET. EVERY COIN COUNTS. KEEP SENDING WHATEVER YOU CAN TO THE PAYBIL NUMBER: 522533 ACCOUNT 9991655 NAME: SISI KWA SISI.

“WE NEED TO BUY MORE LAND,” he added, underscoring the need for more contributions.

The philanthropist shared a video showing trucks delivering construction materials, including cement, sand and blocks.

An excavator could also be seen in the fleet of vehicles making their way to the scene.

In the video, Omondi explained that the rescue house will be a temporary area where people in need and rescued from difficult situations will reside before being linked with durable solutions.

The warehouse will be used to store donations while the school will offer free education to bright students from needy backgrounds who would otherwise drop out of school.

To raise funds for the project, Omondi walked from Nairobi to Mombasa, covering a distance of 486 kilometres.

The walk kicked off at Nyayo National Stadium on February 11, 2026 and ended at Mama Ngina Waterfront Park on Saturday, February 14, 2026, coinciding with Valentine’s Day.

Construction started a day after his arrival in the coastal city.
