DJ Krowbar tearfully remembers late wife at memorial service

Speaking about the pain of losing her, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, he reflected on the impact she had on his life and those around her. The award-winning gospel DJ said he would miss her deeply and shared moments that highlighted her influence on him and their community.
“And I’m gonna miss this girl. Yesterday I did not sleep, I was going through the photos and everything,” DJ Krowbar said.
He spoke about Joyce’s encouragement and their shared mission in life. “She told me I was going to graduate and that education would change lives. Me and my mom awe were in the business of changing lives. And to my family and friends, to our communities, so much will come from this pain,” he added.

The family of Joyce Wanjiru Karumba had earlier announced the date and venue for her burial. DJ Krowbar shared a poster on his official social media pages on Friday, January 30, 2026, revealing that the memorial service would take place at Nairobi Chapel, Ngong Road, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, starting at 10:00 am.
Joyce passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, after a prolonged battle with kidney-related complications.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of Mrs Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, beloved wife to renowned Gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar. Affectionately known to many as Joy, she was called home to be with the Lord in the early hours of Monday, January 26th, 2026, at 3 a.m.,” Krowbar’s statement read.
Joyce had undergone a kidney transplant in mid-2025 and faced several complications, including a recent readmission to the hospital shortly after a brief stay at home. DJ Krowbar’s reflections during the memorial highlighted not only the personal loss he felt but also the enduring inspiration Joyce provided through her dedication to education and community work.
During the service, he expressed the lessons Joyce had instilled and the legacy she left behind. While the pain of her passing is evident, DJ Krowbar’s tribute also celebrated Joyce’s life, her impact, and the memories they shared as a couple devoted to family, faith, and service to others.
