‘DESIRE’ review: inside Lilmaina, Nikita Kering’s romantic dancehall-afrobeat fusion

By , April 11, 2026

“DESIRE” is the latest single from Arbantone artiste Lilmaina, featuring the smooth vocals of Nikita Kering. Released on Friday, April 10, 2026, the track already feels like a strong lead into his upcoming album Sumbua.

In fact, it stands as the first track he intentionally created for the project, and that purpose shows. It’s a smooth, romantic blend that captures the excitement of new love mixed with mature intentions.

From the very first second, the song opens with a crisp dancehall intro. Lilmaina comes in confidently over a bouncy riddim, light percussion, and a deep bass line that gives it that classic off-beat feel. It’s playful and instantly danceable, bringing a fresh Jamaican-inspired vibe into the Kenyan sound.

After about 8–12 seconds, the beat shifts smoothly into a warmer Afrobeat groove. The percussion opens up with layered drums and shakers, creating that familiar swinging rhythm. This transition from dancehall into Afrobeat works really well. It grabs your attention early, then settles into a relaxed, romantic flow.

Towards the end, the track returns to the dancehall style, closing with the same energetic riddim and a few ad-libs. This gives the song a full-circle feel and keeps the energy consistent.

Lyrics and vocal chemistry

Lyrically, “DESIRE” is all about intentional attraction. Lilmaina sings of a “brown skin with your perfect smile,” openly expressing his wish to go from admiration to commitment: “Down the aisle I desire you.” He balances sweet promises (“I will treasure you”) with playful sensuality (“When we touch, down, down, down”), keeping everything honest and relatable.

Nikita Kering brings warmth and depth to the record with her soft, emotive vocals on the hook. Her voice balances perfectly with Lilmaina’s tone, adding a layer of feeling that lifts the chorus and makes it more memorable.

The chemistry between the two artists is strong and natural; their voices complement each other well, creating a seamless blend that enhances the track’s romantic mood.

Visuals that match the mood

The music video, directed by Omoke OGAO and starring Nianna Bikedo, adds another layer to the experience. The song is set on a beautiful coastal beach, evoking a calm, dreamy mood. Golden sand, ocean waves, and soft light all match the romantic feel of the song.

The visuals are clean, stylish, and enjoyable. One small downside is that Nikita Kering doesn’t appear in the video.

Seeing both artistes together could have made the connection feel even stronger on screen. Still, the beach setting and performance carry the visuals well.

Overall, “DESIRE” is a strong, feel-good track that blends dancehall energy with Afrobeat warmth. The production is clean, the message is clear, and the vibe is easy to enjoy.

Rating: 8.3/10

If the rest of Sumbua follows this direction, Lilmaina could be building something special. Highly recommended for fans of smooth Kenyan Afrobeats and cross-genre sounds.
