Coast comedian Abdallah Moi dies
By William Muthama, December 23, 2025Veteran Coast comedian Basheikh Abdallah Basheikh, popularly known as Abdallah Moi, has passed away.
Known for his wit, infectious humour, and uncanny ability to mimic public figures, including the late President Daniel Arap Moi, Abdallah Moi was a beloved figure across the Coast and beyond.
Former Mombasa Senator and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed the news on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, describing Abdallah Moi as a “gifted comedian and cultural icon of Mombasa.”
He added that Moi’s storytelling and humour brought joy, reflection, and unity to many homes.
“He carried the spirit of Old Town with pride and used his God-given talent to earn an honest living, inspire young creatives, and remind us that art and humour are powerful tools of connection,” Hassan said.

Leaders Mourn
Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy & Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho expressed grief over Abdallah Moi’s death, highlighting his role as a unifying force through comedy.
He noted that Moi’s humour was more than entertainment; it was a form of therapy that eased burdens and strengthened social bonds.
Joho emphasised that Moi’s legacy would endure in the smiles he inspired and the memories he left behind, while also offering prayers for patience and strength to the comedian’s family during this difficult period.
“With grief and deep sorrow, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends and the entire creative fraternity following the passing of renowned Mombasa-based creative Basheikh Abdallah Basheikh, fondly known as Abdallah Moi. His voice, presence and humour will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the smiles he inspired and the memories he leaves behind,” he said.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali also paid tribute to Abdallah Moi, recognising his popularity and talent for hilarious stunts and mimicry.
Ali observed that Moi’s voice and personality could captivate anyone, bringing light and laughter to ordinary moments.
He further acknowledged the comedian’s impact on Mombasa’s community and the broader Coast, stressing that his contributions went beyond performance to cultural inspiration.
“Saddened by the death of our very own popular comedian Abdallah Moi from Mombasa. Abdallah is well known for his hilarious stunts and great ability to mimic our late President Moi. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Jannah,” he wrote.
