Zuchu’s mum says she warned her that Diamond attracts women everywhere he goes
By Steve Ireri, May 27, 2026Veteran Tanzanian singer Khadija Kopa, the mother of Bongo songstress Zuchu, has opened up about the conversation she had with her daughter before she agreed to her relationship with music star Diamond Platnumz, revealing that she raised concerns about his popularity and lifestyle.
Speaking in an interview shared by a local Bongo radio station on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Khadija said that when Zuchu told her she wanted to marry Diamond, she advised her to ensure it was not just a boyfriend-and-girlfriend relationship, but a fully recognised marriage.
“I warned her that Diamond Platnumz was highly wanted by women before the marriage. I told her to make sure it was not just a boyfriend and girlfriend thing, and that he should come and follow all the proper protocols for a real, sealed marriage,” she said.
‘Like a machine gun.’
Khadija went on to describe Diamond Platnumz as a “machine gun,” a phrase she said still makes him laugh to this day whenever he remembers it.
She explained that her concern was based on the level of attention he receives from women, saying he is in such high demand that all city women want him, including even people close within social circles.
“I told my daughter that Diamond is like a machine gun. Even till today, Diamond laughs about me describing him as a machine gun. He still laughs about it,” she said.

She added that she had warned her daughter that such a man could overwhelm her if she was not prepared, given his fame and the constant admiration he attracts from both women and even fellow men in the industry.
“I was telling my daughter that such a man can easily overwhelm her because he is in high demand and all the city women want him. Even his own cousins want him, and even his fellow men admire him, so I asked her if she would manage,” she added.
According to her, she told Zuchu that if she believed she could handle the situation, then she should bring Diamond Platnumz home so she could personally meet and approve him.
“That is when I told her that if she thinks she can keep up, then she should bring him to me so I can see him and approve him,” she explained.
Khadija Kopa also explained the cultural process of marriage in Zanzibar, noting that in their tradition, a man does not need to write formal letters when seeking to marry a woman, as word of mouth is considered sufficient.
“In our Zanzibar culture, if a man wants to marry a lady, they don’t write a letter to me as in other Swahili cultures; word of mouth is enough,” she shared.
She then recalled how Diamond Platnumz eventually came forward and expressed his intention to marry Zuchu, telling her that he had fallen in love with her daughter because of her character and the qualities she possessed.
She added that he also said he had been praying to God regarding the relationship.
“Diamond came and told me he had fallen in love with my daughter and wanted to marry her because he wanted a lady with her kind of character. He said he had been praying to God,” she added.
