World Cup 2026: Nana Owiti backs Brazil, Africa and any team facing Portugal

By , June 11, 2026

Media personality Nana Owiti has shared the teams she will be supporting during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, revealing that her loyalties will lie with Brazil, African nations, Argentina, and, humorously, any team playing against Portugal.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Nana described the World Cup as the biggest football event and encouraged fans to share which national teams they would be backing throughout the tournament.

Among the teams Nana identified as her favourites was Brazil, one of the most successful football nations in World Cup history.

Ni Masaaaaaa tu! The biggest Football event is here with us! Share your World Cup team?” she wrote.

The media personality used the Brazilian flag while discussing her preferred teams, signalling her support for the South American giants as they begin another campaign in pursuit of football’s biggest prize.

In addition to Brazil and African nations, Nana revealed that she would also be supporting Argentina during the tournament.

Perhaps the most talked-about part of her post was her playful admission that she would support any team facing Portugal.

While she did not explain the reason behind the statement, the comment immediately generated reactions online, particularly among Portuguese football fans.

Mimi yangu hiyo, Africa teams, Argentina and any other team that plays against Portugal🇵🇹😝,” she added.

Biggest World Cup in history

For the first time ever, the World Cup will be jointly hosted by three countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament will run until July 19, 2026, when the final is played at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.

The 2026 edition will also make history by featuring 48 teams, an increase from the previous 32-team format used in recent tournaments. The expansion means the competition will have 104 matches, making it the largest World Cup FIFA has ever organised.

The opening day of the tournament will feature hosts Mexico taking on South Africa at the Mexico City Stadium, while South Korea will face Czechia later the same day in Guadalajara.

The competition will begin with the group stage running from June 11 to June 27, before progressing to the Round of 32 from June 28 to July 3. The Round of 16 will then be played between July 4 and July 7, followed by the quarterfinals from July 9 to July 11.

The semifinals are scheduled for July 14 and July 15, while the third-place playoff will be held on July 18, one day before the final.

Because of the expanded format, football fans are expected to enjoy multiple matches daily throughout the tournament, with some match days featuring close to ten games across different venues.
