Why can’t you stay with your agemates? – Esther Musila mocks same-age couples over failed marriages

Gospel singer Guardian Angel’s wife, Esther Musila, has weighed in on break-ups of couples who married people their age while defending her marriage to the younger gospel musician.
In a video shared on Wednesday, September 17, 2026, Musila questioned why some people who chose partners within their age group have struggled to maintain their marriages, contrasting their experiences with her union with Guardian Angel.
“Watu wa rika mko wapi na mko huku mnawachana day in day out, mbona hamkai kwa ndoa zenu?” Musila posed.
“Why can’t you stay with your agemates? Mbona ndoa zenu halilast?”
Musila went on to question why people of the same age were seemingly struggling with relationships despite being the majority, while she belongs to what she described as a minority of women married to younger men.
“Watu wa rika, why? I thought you were the majority, us guys who are married to younger men. We are the minority, and yet we have stuck to our marriages,” she said.
She then criticised same-age couples whom she accused of cheating on each other and being unhappy in their marriages.
“While you, who are of the same age, left right centre, you are cheating on each other, you have no satisfaction, you are miserable, and you are just living in a jail, and yet you say you are married to me. I cannot live like that,” Musila said.
Musila defends her marriage
The remarks come as Musila continues to face public scrutiny over her marriage to Guardian Angel, who is younger than her.
The couple’s age difference has repeatedly attracted public discussion and criticism, with both Musila and Guardian Angel previously speaking about the backlash surrounding their relationship. Guardian Angel has also defended his decision to marry Musila, saying her age did not determine her place as his wife.
Musila has similarly pushed back against critics, maintaining that the two chose each other and that outsiders should not dictate how they conduct their marriage.
In her latest remarks, she appeared to turn the criticism around on people who question her choice of a younger husband, pointing to what she described as problems within marriages between people of the same age.
“Mumejaa huku na mko na advises na hamuheshimu ata ndoa zenu,” she said.
“Wacha nikae na kijana yangu tunaheshimiana, and that is what marriage is all about: love and respect,” she added.
Musila’s comments come at a time when several high-profile Kenyan celebrity relationships have ended or faced public scrutiny.
For Musila, however, the focus remains on the marriage she has built with Guardian Angel, while insisting that mutual respect and love are what matter in a marriage.
