Truphena Muthoni says some brands failed to honour promises after her 72-hour tree hug record
By Valerian Khakayi, August 6, 2026Environmental champion Truphena Muthoni has claimed that some brands failed to fulfil the promises they made after her record-breaking 72-hour tree-hugging challenge, saying not everyone who pledged support followed through.
Speaking about the aftermath of the challenge, during a candid conversation with digital content creator 2mbili, on Thursday, August 6,2026, Muthoni said while many individuals and companies honoured their commitments, others failed to deliver despite making public promises.
“Most of those promises were true but some of them especially those who are in the economic side, were really lying some of them you can even search on google you will find their names appearing,” Muthoni said.
The environmental champion explained that she initially chose not to pursue the matter because it was not her priority. However, she expressed concern that some online stories containing what she described as false claims continue to appear in Google search results whenever people search for her name.
“I was not following up because I do not care that much, but there is one if they can be able to delete those lies ndio iwache kuappear kwa google,” she explained.
“I am doing great things and when someone google they find them of top they are marketing themselves for no reason with lies so I do not want to tie my name with lies.”
TikTok gift
Muthoni also disclosed that one of the unfulfilled promises involved a cash reward of about USD 3,000 (approximately Ksh 388,200), which she said she came across on TikTok.
“The one I found on my TikTok account was around 3000 dollars,” she added.
Tree-huging challenge
Muthoni shot to national fame after successfully completing a 72-hour tree-hugging challenge in Nyeri County on Thursday, December 11, 2025. She began the endurance marathon on December 8, 2025, surpassing her previous record and drawing nationwide attention as supporters cheered her on until the finish.
Her endurance feat attracted widespread attention online, with several well-wishers and brands publicly pledging cash rewards and gifts in recognition of her achievement.
Despite the recognition she received, Muthoni now says not every promise made in the wake of her achievement was fulfilled, adding that she hopes misleading claims linked to her name are eventually removed from online platforms.
