TikToker Victor Chege reveals traumatic encounter with thieves after Derrick Omollo’s death

In an emotional TikTok video on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Chege said Omollo’s death deeply affected him because he had personally experienced a similar situation.
“When I saw it in the morning, and you see when we first heard about that guy called Derrick, rest in peace, I was so heartbroken because I was in that situation,” Chege said.
Traumatic encounter
Chege said attacks by thieves have become too common in society, expressing concern over what he described as the normalisation of such incidents.
“I think we’ve normalised being attacked by thieves. It’s like it’s too normal,” he said.
He recalled how the attackers appeared willing to cause serious harm over seemingly minor items.
“The crazy thing is that these people, they don’t want nothing… They want to kill you just for a phone,” Chege said.
Chege also showed the injuries he sustained during the encounter, pointing to a wound on his head.
“I can’t even take off this hat. I have a cut over here. I have a cut on my head,” he said.
Calls for change
The TikToker questioned why little appears to have changed despite repeated reports of people being attacked by thieves.
“People have been talking about this. It’s been all over, and there’s no change. Nothing is happening,” he said.
Chege said his video was not intended to seek sympathy but to draw attention to the wider problem of insecurity.
“I’m not making this video for pity. I don’t need pity,” he said.
Chege mourns Derrick Omollo
Reflecting on Omollo’s death, Chege sent condolences to his family and friends while hoping those affected by the incident would find peace.
“I just wish the friends of Derrick peace. I just hope they’re okay and the family, man. It’s not easy,” he said.
He also thanked his followers for wishing him a speedy recovery after his ordeal.
“To everyone who wished me a quick recovery, thank you so much. Thank you. It means a lot,” Chege said.
