This is home: Samidoh declares bid for Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat

Mugithi singer Samidoh Muchoki has officially declared his bid to become the next Member of Parliament for the Ol Joro Orok Constituency in Nyandarua County, saying he is ready to move from speaking about change through music to participating directly in Parliament.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, announcing his candidature, Samidoh described Ol Joro Orok as his home and said his decision to seek the parliamentary seat was driven by his understanding of the challenges facing ordinary residents.
“Ladies and gentlemen, good people of Nyandarua County, I am humbled to offer my candidature for the position of Member of Parliament for Ol Joro Orok Constituency,” Samidoh announced.
“I am a son of Ol Joro Orok. This is home. This is where my journey began.”

Reasons for vying
Samidoh said his decision to enter politics was not based on his popularity as a musician.
“I am not offering myself for this position because I am a musician. I am not offering myself because I am famous or because my name is known across the country,” he said.
He explained that his experiences had given him an understanding of the struggles facing ordinary people and convinced him that he needed to participate directly in decision-making.
“For years, through my music, I have spoken about life, leadership, our struggles and our aspirations. We have sung about the things that affect our families and our communities. But there comes a time when speaking about change is not enough,” Samidoh said.
“There comes a time when one must seek the opportunity to participate directly in the institutions where decisions are made, laws are enacted and national resources and policies are shaped.”

If elected
If elected, Samidoh said education would be among the key areas of his leadership agenda in Ol Joro Orok. He envisioned an education system where children would not miss school because their families could not meet school-related costs.
“I dream of an Ol Joro Orok where no child stays at home on a school day because a family cannot meet school-related costs,” he said.
He also pledged to push for greater access to vocational and technical training, arguing that education should equip young people with practical skills that can help them earn a living.
Beyond education, Samidoh said he would focus on improving infrastructure, supporting farmers and small businesses, nurturing talent and creating more economic opportunities for young people.

He said his experience and networks gained from travelling across Kenya and internationally could help connect residents to new opportunities.
“Ol Joro Orok must become a constituency where young people can dream beyond survival,” Samidoh said.
As he formally enters the parliamentary race, Samidoh called on residents to support his campaign, saying he was ready to work with them to transform the constituency.
“My brothers and sisters, fellow Nyandaruans, the young and old, the hard-working men and women of Ol Joro Orok, stand with me and help campaign tirelessly until we claim this seat,” he said.
