Ruto meets Trevor Ombija amid his Nyakach MP bid
By Valerian Khakayi, September 15, 2026President William Ruto has held a meeting with vocal journalist Trevor Ombija as the latter continues positioning himself for the Nyakach Constituency parliamentary race ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ombija shared details of the meeting on social media, describing it as an indoor engagement with the Head of State.
“Honoured to have had an indoor meeting with William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, to share my vision and development priorities for Nyakach Constituency,” Ombija stated on Tuesday, September 15,2026.
The meeting comes days after Ombija publicly declared his support for Ruto and the president’s re-election bid.
Ombija backs Ruto’s re-election
On Sunday, September 13, Ombija joined Ruto’s Tutam political movement as the president began his development tour of the Nyanza region.
In a post shared on TikTok, the journalist welcomed Ruto to Nyanza and expressed his support for the movement, stating, “President Ruto’s Nyanza tour. President Ruto karibu Nyanza, tunakupenda. TUTAM siku zote. Jeshi ya rais.”
Ombija has also been vocal in defending some of the government’s development projects, particularly in his home area.
During a recent event, he praised Ruto for overseeing the construction of a major highway that he said had remained unattended for more than six decades.
“For 60 years, no one constructed this highway. It is President Ruto who is doing it now,” Ombija said.
He recalled experiencing heavy traffic on the road, saying he once spent Christmas sleeping there after being caught in a traffic snarl-up.
“But now it’s under construction,” he added.
Ombija’s tutam appeal
Additionally, Ombija has further thrown his weight behind Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, urging Kenyans to allow the president to serve a second term.
“Let’s give Ruto another term, please,” Ombija said.
His latest meeting with Ruto comes as he steps up his political activities in Nyakach, where he is seeking to become the area’s next Member of Parliament.
The journalist is therefore increasingly combining his media profile with political engagements as he seeks to make his case to voters ahead of the 2027 polls.
Ruto’s ongoing Nyanza tour has also provided a platform for local leaders and political actors to engage the president on development priorities across the region.
