Pritty Vishy responds to criticism over choosing a South African DJ

Pritty sparked a debate after revealing that she looks up to South African DJ Cyan, whose style and energy she said inspire what she wants to achieve in her own DJ career.
Pritty defends her choice
Responding to the backlash in a series of Instagram posts on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Pritty said she still listens to Kenyan DJs and respects their work. She explained that her decision to mention a South African DJ was simply based on the type of music and style that inspire her.
“I love me some Kenyan DJs, I swear. That’s why I said they don’t need to change anything to inspire me. They are good at what they do,” Pritty said.
The content creator also questioned why she was being criticised for choosing someone outside Kenya as her inspiration, while Kenyans often support international music and events.
“Y’all should just let me be inspired by who inspires what I want, just like y’all love Kenyan songs but will go all out for Afrobeats and Amapiano events and artists,” she added.
Pritty said she has also been listening to Kenyan DJs more often and insisted that she did not intend to shame or disrespect them. She acknowledged that some of the comments directed at her had been sarcastic and hurtful but maintained that she should be allowed to choose her own source of inspiration.
Pritty returns to DJing
The latest response comes after Pritty appeared to change her mind about quitting DJing following criticism she received after venturing into the industry. The content creator had earlier announced that she was stepping away from DJing, saying she wanted to choose peace after facing backlash, particularly from male DJs.
However, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, she appeared to confirm that she was returning to the decks and was ready to continue working on her skills. “Giving up keh! 😂😂 Zoeea DJ wako BY FOOOORCE. 😒😂😂😂 Till we get it RIGHT,” she wrote.
Her message suggested that she was not ready to walk away from DJing despite the criticism she had received.
Building her DJ career
Pritty’s return to DJing comes as she continues to find her place in the entertainment industry. Rather than seeing criticism as a reason to quit, she now appears focused on improving her skills and finding a style that works for her.
Her latest comments also show that while she may draw inspiration from DJs outside Kenya, she continues to follow and listen to local DJs.
