By Steve Ireri, September 10, 2026Popular KBC Radio Taifa presenter Edmonds Selassia has died, leaving friends, former colleagues and artistes mourning a broadcaster whose voice had become familiar to listeners of the national broadcaster.
Digital creator and former colleague Haligan Agade confirmed Selassia’s death on Thursday, September 10, 2026, describing the late broadcaster as a great friend, a gentleman and a man full of respect.
Agade said he had just been informed about the death of his former colleague, expressing disbelief at the loss of a man he remembered fondly and whose passing had left him struggling to understand the cruel nature of death.
“Just been informed about very sad news of the death of my great friend and former colleague Edmonds Selassia. Edmond has been a great friend, a gentleman per excellence, a man full of respect,” Agade wrote.
The digital creator went on to question why death so often takes away people he described as the best and most beautiful souls, drawing a painful comparison with another friend and former colleague, Zopporah Njeri, who died six years ago.
“Why is it that death always snatches away from amongst us the best and beautiful souls? His death reminds me of Zopporah Njeri, another great friend who died 6 years ago,” he added.
Agade ended his emotional tribute with a question that captured his disbelief at the loss, writing, “What is death wajameni, what is death?”
News of Selassia’s death has also prompted tributes from other people who had interacted with him through his work at KBC Radio Taifa, with several remembering his presence on air and his contribution to the station.
Facebook influencer Benson Wamunga appeared particularly stunned by the news, recalling that Selassia’s voice had only recently been heard on the national broadcaster.
“Waaaaaah omwana wa ingo Edmonds Selassia. It’s just yesterday when your voice was fresh behind KBC Radio Taifa bars!” Wamunga wrote.
Wamunga further recalled Selassia’s involvement in the Tafrija za Kutwa programme for Caroline Mramba, popularly known as Mtoto Mzuri, saying the late presenter had been part of the activities during the previous week.
“The whole of last week you were in, for @Caroline Mramba (Mtoto Mzuri) kwenye Tafrija za Kutwa!” he added.
Another Facebook influencer, Danmetro Worldover Mukoya, also mourned Selassia while reflecting on how recently the presenter had been working before his death.
Mukoya shared a clip from what he said had been Selassia’s show the previous day, noting that the broadcaster had worked until late at night before his death the following morning.
“Our deepest condolences to the family of Kenya broadcasting presenter Edmonds Selassia. Imagine this clip was for yesterday’s show ukafanya hadi late usiku then asubuhi you are no more.😭😭😭😭😭” Mukoya wrote.
He ended his tribute with a simple farewell to the late presenter, writing, “Rip Edmonds Selassia.”
Gospel singer Gladys Mwathime also joined those mourning Selassia, recalling his contribution to her music career and the support he gave her songs through his work at KBC Radio Taifa.
“WAH😢🤔 IT HURTS. GO WELL, DEAR FRIEND Edmonds Selassia,” Mwathime wrote.
The gospel singer said she would not forget how Selassia played her songs on the station, expressing gratitude for the support he gave her as an artiste.
“CAN’T FORGET HOW YOU PLAYED MY SONGS ON YOUR STATION RADIO KBC. 🙏 I’m grateful sir☝,” she added.
Mwathime concluded her emotional message by referring to Selassia as “Shemeji” and wishing him eternal rest.
