‘I left, I moved on’: Mercy Makini distances herself from Morara Kebaso’s polygamous marriage

Mercy Makini, the ex-wife of activist and politician Morara Kebaso, has responded after he publicly described himself as a polygamous man with two wives, identifying Mercy as the mother of his three children and Pauline as his second wife.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 10, 2026, Mercy, who was married to Morara and shares three children with him, rejected the suggestion that she is still part of his polygamous marriage.

She said she walked away from the relationship and has since moved on, urging Morara to stop involving her in discussions about his relationships.

“As for this talk about polygamy, please stop creating the impression that I am still part of your life. Polygamy is your business, not mine. I left. I moved on. I am living my life,” she said.

Mercy also told Morara to stop dragging her name into his public affairs, saying she had remained silent for years to keep their private matters out of the public eye.

Why I left Morara Kebaso

In her statement, Mercy said she left the marriage because of domestic violence.

She accused Morara of physically assaulting her, including during pregnancy, saying she eventually decided to leave and rebuild her life.

“First, I walked away because of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE,” she said.

Mercy added that she chose to leave while she was still alive rather than remain in a relationship she described as abusive.

“Society only appreciates a woman when they walk out of a marriage dead; I chose to walk out alive,” she said.

She said she left Morara’s home on March 2, 2026, and had not looked back since.

Mercy further claimed she kept quiet to protect the privacy of those involved, but said Morara’s continued references to her prompted her to respond publicly.

Morara Addresses his polygamous marriage

During a radio interview on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the politician and activist said he was not single and identified his first Mercy Makini, whom he referred to as Nyanchira, from Bobasi Constituency in Kisii County. He said the couple has three children.

“I am not single. I have two wives. The first one is called Nyanchira and comes from Bobasi Constituency in Kisii County. We have three kids. The firstborn is Garang Morara, then Kerubo and the third is Morara Kebaso Junior,” he said.

Morara also disclosed that he has a second wife, Pauline, further confirming his polygamous status.

“I have another wife called Pauline, and we are waiting for her to show us (if she will have kids),” he added.

Morara addresses speculation about his marriage

On Tuesday, September 4, 2026, Morara Kebaso also addressed speculation surrounding their marriage and his relationship with Pauline.

Morara had identified Mercy as the mother of his three children and referred to Pauline, the woman at the centre of the speculation, saying he supported her work.

He also urged the public to respect his family’s choices, saying, “Every home and family has its own way of doing things. Your values are not our values. Your choices are not our choices.”

However, Mercy has rejected the suggestion that she remains part of Morara’s polygamous relationship, saying she left the marriage and has since moved on.
