Kenyan filmmaker and comedian Eddie Butita has shared an emotional response to the storyline of the much-talked-about series dubbed The Polygamist.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2026, after watching the series, Butita said he was deeply moved to tears, describing it as a sad and powerful portrayal of relationships and family dynamics.

He noted that the themes explored in the production reflect painful realities that many women go through, making the story difficult to watch without emotional impact.

“I just watched The Polygamist, and I cried; that is so sad,” Butita revealed.

Women in toxic relationships

Butita further expressed concern about how some women are treated in relationships, saying the series opened his eyes to issues that many may not often talk about openly.

He went on and said that while some men are trying to make a difference, others are still mistreating women they claim to love.

“It is so sad to see how some South African men are treating women; it is very sad while we are trying to make a difference as men,” he said.

Kenyan men’s love to women

According to him, Kenyan men love their women with all their hearts, take care of them, and remain faithful by not playing them or talking to other women while in relationships.

“While Kenyan men, we are loving our women with all our hearts, taking care of them, not playing them, and not talking to other women. Some South African men are doing the bare minimum.

“That was so sad; I never knew that some are like that. I only knew some have a problem with foreigners, but it seems some even have problems with their girls, and that is a bad thing to ever do as a man.”

Butita further said he feels Kenyan men are the change that should be emulated, adding that other men should learn from them because of how they treat women.

“I feel like Kenyan men, we are the change that men should emulate; we are the change that some South African men need to copy from because how do you do that to ladies?” he added.

“Some South African men, you can do better; we as Kenyan men are a good example. It is so sad.”

The Polygamist

The series follows the complex life of a man navigating multiple marriages and the emotional, financial, and social challenges that come with polygamous relationships.

It explores themes of love, jealousy, betrayal, and family conflict, showing how decisions within such relationships affect all those involved.
