Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has reassured his followers that he is getting better after developing a swollen lip that briefly raised concern about his health.

Salasya shared a photo showing his visibly swollen lip on Instagram on Sunday, August 30, 2026, while seeking advice on what medicine he could use. Despite feeling unwell, the outspoken lawmaker said he still had plans to attend a political rally.

“Am not okay, which medicine can I apply but I have to join a rally today. We must liberate Kenya at all cost,” Salasya said.

The photo quickly drew attention from his followers, with the lawmaker appearing to have significant swelling around his lip. Salasya, however, did not give details about what had caused the swelling or whether he had been examined by a doctor at the time of his first post.

Later in the day, the MP provided a more reassuring update, saying the swelling had started going down after he took medication.

“Imeanza kurudi baada ya kumeza dawa Yescort and montelukast levocetrizine thanks to Dr Evans Nyarangi from Borabu constituency. Am now getting better,” he said.

Salasya was elected Mumias East MP in the 2022 General Election on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya ticket. Since entering Parliament, he has maintained a high profile both inside and outside the National Assembly, often using social media to communicate directly with his supporters.
