Pastor T claims invisible hand hijacked Gen Z protests for political interests

Vocal preacher Anthony Kahura Mwangi, widely known as Pastor T, has claimed that although the initial Gen Z protests were genuine, they were later hijacked by an “invisible hand” pursuing political interests.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chris the Bass, the preacher said the demonstrations that began in June 2024 reflected the genuine frustrations of young Kenyans who wanted to see a better country.

However, he stated that unknown individuals or groups took advantage of the movement to advance their own political agenda.

Ile maandamano ya kwanza ya Gen Z ilikuwa legit, but lazima ilitoka mahali,” Pastor T said.

Hiyo invisible hand, najua gava wanajua; there was an invisible hand that took advantage of the passion of the young people wanting to see a better Kenya, and they did that to negotiate for their political scores.

According to the preacher, those behind the scheme recognised the passion and influence of young protesters and used the movement for political purposes.

He further questioned what tangible changes had been achieved since the June 25, 2024, protests, arguing that many of the issues that sparked the demonstrations remain unresolved.

“The people looked at the passion of the young people, and they knew they would engineer this,” he added.

“My question is the nation. When will it look right now? Nothing has changed since June 25, 2024; hiyo bill ilifightiwa ilipitishwa yote. Because the power of that hand has reduced, so they do not have the muscles.”

Pastor T also stated that the protests were coordinated from a central command, claiming there was a unit that directed the movement before the alleged political interests behind it were resolved.

“There was a centre and unit that coordinated the whole thing; there was an invisible hand, and that hand was either settled politically or taken care of,” Pastor T stated.

Despite his assertions, the preacher expressed sadness over the lives lost during the demonstrations, saying the deaths of young protesters continue to pain him.

Mimi hao Watoto walikufa huwa inaniumiza,” he pointed out.

The Gen Z protests erupted in June 2024, with thousands of young Kenyans taking to the streets to oppose the Finance Bill and demand greater accountability in government.

The demonstrations attracted widespread local and international attention and resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, according to rights groups.
