Pandemonium in Museveni family: Muhoozi vows to arrest his brother-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo
By Ascah Mwango, August 28, 2026Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has escalated his public feud with his brother-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo, vowing to have him arrested over the operations of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID).
The latest confrontation unfolded on social media on Friday, August 28, 2026, with Muhoozi announcing that PACEID would be dissolved and its functions transferred to Operation Wealth Creation.
Muhoozi has accused PACEID of operating illegally and corruption within the organisation, which is chaired by Rwabwogo, who is married to President Yoweri Museveni’s daughter Patience.
“We are officially dissolving PACEID as an organisation. All its functions, budgets and responsibilities will be taken over by Operation Wealth Creation. This starts immediately,” Muhoozi said.
He added that Rwabwogo’s status was under discussion, warning that action would follow.
“We will discipline so-called ‘brothers in law’ too,” he said.
Muhoozi threatens to arrest Rwabwogo
Muhoozi directly threatened to arrest Rwabwogo, saying his position as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces gave him the authority to act.
“If Odrek thinks hiding behind my sister will save him, he is joking!” Muhoozi wrote.
“As Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I will arrest the criminal Odrek soon and bring peace to our people.”
He described the threat as his final warning to Rwabwogo.
“This is my last warning to that fool Odrek. From now on it will be actions. I hope Ugandans understand me?” he said.
Muhoozi later doubled down on the threat, writing: “Arresting Odrek is the simplest thing I have ever done. I will do it.”
Muhoozi disowns Rwabwogo as brother-in-law
The army chief also made personal remarks about his relationship with Rwabwogo, claiming that he had not approved of the marriage.
“Odrek was forced upon me by my parents. I NEVER approved of him. I approved of Edwin Karugire. Edwin is the ONLY brother in law I have,” he said.
He added: “Parents must learn to listen to the voices of their sons.”
Muhoozi’s remarks have brought an increasingly public family disagreement into the political and institutional spotlight.
PACEID official arrested
The escalation came a day after Muhoozi confirmed the arrest of Matthew Bagonza, a senior PACEID official and Rwabwogo’s close aide.
Muhoozi shared a photograph of Bagonza on X and wrote: “We have this one. Learning Kiswahili.”
He had earlier warned that members of PACEID would face arrest, describing the organisation as illegal.
Warning to Ugandan media
Muhoozi also warned media organisations against giving airtime to PACEID officials, saying those who supported the organisation would face consequences.
“I want to advise all members of the Ugandan media who are increasingly becoming supporters of PLU. Do not become complicit in the thievery of illegal organisations like PACEID. You will be held accountable too,” he said.
The army chief further announced that PACEID’s functions, budgets and responsibilities would be transferred to Operation Wealth Creation.
He also claimed that $14 million allocated to Rwabwago’s initiatives should instead be redirected towards accommodation for Uganda People’s Defence Forces personnel.
Rwabwago rejects PACEID claims
Rwabwago has pushed back against Muhoozi’s claims, rejecting the assertion that PACEID is an illegal organisation.
He maintained that the organisation remains operational and urged Muhoozi to respect established legal and institutional procedures.
“Only President Museveni can stop me,” Rwabwago said, while warning that disregard for institutional structures could create a dangerous environment of indiscipline.
The dispute has now expanded beyond a disagreement over PACEID’s operations, with Muhoozi openly questioning his relationship with Rwabwago and threatening his arrest.
Rwabwago is married to Patience Museveni, President Museveni’s daughter, making him Muhoozi’s brother-in-law.
