Nuru Okanga holds colourful meet-and-greet in Bungoma ahead of Sifuna’s homecoming
By Steve Ireri, July 26, 2026Social media personality and late ODM leader Raila Odinga’s die-hard fan Nuru Okanga has shared an update after holding a meet-and-greet in Bungoma County, where he interacted with residents as he continues building his grassroots network ahead of his 2027 MCA bid.
In a post shared on Facebook on Saturday, February 25, 2026, Okanga invited his supporters to attend an event he described as a gathering ahead of the homecoming of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying the political atmosphere in the region was already charged.
“Meet and Greet in Bungoma County ahead of our Kingpin Edwin Sifuna’s homecoming tomorrow. The ground is on fire and is saying WANTAM!” he wrote.
Okanga accompanied his message with several photos showing him interacting with residents during the meet-and-greet, with large groups of people appearing to gather around him as he moved through the area.
In one of the photos, the social media personality was seen standing through the sunroof of a Prado vehicle while waving at people gathered along the road, as he appeared to engage with residents and supporters during the political outing.
The meet-and-greet came after the Linda Mwananchi movement held a major rally in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where thousands of residents turned up to receive the political caravan led by Sifuna.
The successful rally appeared to generate significant political momentum in the region, with Okanga subsequently highlighting the reception as the movement prepared for further engagements in Western Kenya.
Minutes before sharing his meet-and-greet update, Okanga also reacted to the large turnout witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi rally, using the occasion to launch a strong attack on President William Ruto.
“Sisi ni Waluhya, na haturudi nyuma. The only vote that Ruto will get is his own vote. God has rejected him, Kenyans have rejected him, and even his family has rejected him. This man must go. Next year, WANTAM will be WANTAM,” he wrote.
The social media personality had earlier on the same day also heaped praise on Ol Kalou Member of Parliament-elect Sammy Kamau, comparing his political presence to that of other prominent politicians.
“I thought Gachagua and Methu were fire, but that was until I watched Sammy Kamau. See what they are raising. Huyu hata hawezi nunua uwoga. Watu wa Ol Kalou, once again, congratulations. Duale must respect our cousins. Na sisi ndio Sifuna,” Okanga wrote.
His latest activities in Western Kenya come as he continues to pursue his own political ambitions, having previously announced plans to contest the Member of County Assembly seat in Orera Ward, Matungu Constituency, in the 2027 General Election.
In a similar development he also spoke about the need to relocate from Nairobi and focus more attention on his home area as he prepares for the MCA race.
He said he had reflected on his political future and concluded that he needed to return home and begin laying the groundwork for his campaign.
“My name is Nuru Okanga, a young man from Kakamega County, Matungu Constituency, Orera Ward, and I am an aspirant for the MCA seat in 2027. Before I say anything else, I want to explain that I have sat down and realised that the time has come for me to stand as MCA back home,” he said at the time.
“I am planning to move back home in December to start preparing the ground. I have come to make a public appeal because, as a politician, when you arrive, people want to eat rice at your place and drink tea; if you have something to offer, you should share it,” he said.
He had also appealed to his supporters to help him raise funds to purchase large cooking pots for visitors expected to come to his home during his political mobilisation.
“I want to go to the bank and open a paybill to receive funds to buy cooking pots for the visitors who will be coming to see me. I have a budget of about Ksh90,000 and I want to buy five large cooking pots. The budget is approximately between 90,000 and 100,000 shillings,” he said.
