Njuguna Waiguru profile: What to know about Anne Waiguru’s son following star-studded wedding
By Paulette Mboga, August 30, 2026Njuguna Waiguru, the eldest son of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, has started a new chapter after marrying Joanne Rodriguez in a star-studded ceremony held in Naivasha on August 29, 2026.
The wedding came after the couple celebrated their engagement and traditional marriage ceremonies earlier in the year, bringing their journey to the highly anticipated white wedding.

But beyond the celebrations, who exactly is Njuguna Waiguru?
From Brookhouse to entrepreneurship
Njuguna attended Brookhouse International School in Nairobi, where he studied Business, ICT and Mathematics at A-level. During his time in school, he developed an interest in entrepreneurship and started exploring business at a young age.
In 2015, when he was about 18, Njuguna appeared at a TEDxYouth event at Brookhouse. During the event, he spoke about entrepreneurship, his ambitions and his experience of starting a business while still a student.
His early interest in business later took him to England, where he pursued his studies at the University of Salford in Manchester.
Building a business while still young
Njuguna’s entrepreneurial journey began with Something Inc., an ICT and electronics-related business that dealt with customised electronics and accessories.
The company also had two projects, Kila Kadi, a business-card replacement app, and Lion Arts, a creative writing and illustration venture.
His career later moved into the fintech space. In 2020, Njuguna became a co-founder and CTO at Fingo Africa, a fintech startup that provides digital banking services for young people.
A look at Njuguna’s family
Njuguna is the eldest of Anne Waiguru’s three children. His siblings are Don and Wabu Waiguru, who is the youngest.
The three children are from Anne Waiguru’s first marriage to Tony Waiguru Njuguna. The governor later married lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo in a traditional wedding ceremony in 2019.
Njuguna’s family has also had another major celebration this year. In July, his brother Don Waiguru held his Ngurario traditional wedding with Yvonne.

Their mother, Anne Waiguru, has served as Kirinyaga Governor since 2017 and was re-elected for a second term in 2022.
Njuguna and Joanne’s journey to marriage
Njuguna and Joanne Rodriguez began their wedding journey with an engagement ceremony in January 2026. They later held their traditional marriage ceremonies as they prepared for their white wedding.
In May 2026, the couple performed the Ruracio and Ngurario ceremonies.
The celebrations culminated in their white wedding in Naivasha on August 29, 2026. For Njuguna, the ceremony marked the latest chapter in a journey that has combined his family life, education, entrepreneurship and now marriage.
