Nishapigwa a month’s supply of yams: Sifuna elated after receiving gifts in Meru
By Paulette Mboga, August 30, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has received a warm welcome in Meru, where he was gifted a month’s supply of yams, according to him, alongside other farm produce.
The senator was welcomed by former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza as he arrived in the county ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Sifuna was gifted maize, yams, Irish potatoes and green maize during his visit. The gifts included a sack of potatoes, green bananas and yams, as well as maize in sacks, with the produce highlighting some of the agricultural products associated with the region.
In photos shared by Sifuna, he could be seen smiling widely as he looked at the farm produce alongside Mwangaza. The senator thanked the former governor for the reception as he joined residents ahead of the planned rally.
“Meru County….first things first nishapigwa a month’s supply of yams..wanasema hii ndio inahitajika,” Sifuna said on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Sifuna enjoys Meru hospitality
The senator appeared pleased with the welcome, especially after receiving the large supply of yams. He shared the moment as part of his visit to Meru, where the Linda Mwananchi caravan is set to hold its rally.
Sifuna said the yams were among the first things he received after arriving in Meru. He also noted that those who welcomed him had said the produce was what was needed.
“Wanasema hii ndio inahitajika,” Sifuna said.
Mwangaza had earlier welcomed the Linda Mwananchi movement to Meru and called for a peaceful tour of the county. Her reception of Sifuna included the presentation of the farm produce as the political caravan prepared for its activities in the county.
The Linda Mwananchi caravan is led by Sifuna and is holding its Meru rally on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The movement had announced Meru as its next destination after its August 16, 2026 tour of Homa Bay County.
The senator’s visit therefore comes as the movement continues with its planned activities. Sifuna thanked Mwangaza for the reception as he joined residents ahead of the rally.
Sifuna shared his excitement over the welcome while preparing for the day’s activities in the county. He said the reception had already started with a month’s supply of yams.
