Museveni says he received 8 million messages on his 82nd birthday
By William Muthama, September 25, 2026Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said he received about eight million messages from well-wishers as he celebrated his 82nd birthday.
In a post shared on X on Friday, September 25, 2026, Museveni thanked Ugandans, East Africans and other well-wishers who sent him messages to mark the occasion.
Museveni said the birthday messages were led by members of his nuclear family, including his wife Janet Museveni, and children Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Natasha, Patience and Kyaremeera.
“My social-media handler, Precious Kamwiine, told me that there were 8 million such messages,” Museveni said.
Museveni thanks God for 82 years
The Ugandan leader thanked God for allowing him to reach the age of 82, while also highlighting what he described as Uganda’s progress.
“I thank God for the 82 years. I thank God for the peace in Uganda and the progress—agriculture, oil, other minerals, factories, etc.,” he said.
Museveni also used the occasion to comment on environmental concerns, pointing to what he described as unreliable rains.

He urged people living in wetlands, forests and other protected areas to leave the areas to preserve the country’s natural resources.
“The present unreliable rains are a reminder that we should not take nature for granted,” Museveni said.
Museveni hopes to reach 100
Museveni had earlier expressed gratitude to the millions of people who celebrated his 82nd birthday, saying the goodwill would encourage him and his wife to live for many more years.
The Ugandan leader said he and his wife hoped to reach 100 and 96 years respectively.
“I want to thank the millions of well-wishers who sent me congratulations on my 82nd birthday on the 15th of September, 2026,” Museveni said.
He added that the well wishes and blessings would give him and his wife the encouragement to continue for another 18 years.
“Those well wishes and God’s blessings will push me and Maama for another just 18 years to reach 100 years of age and for Maama to reach 96 years,” he said.
