‘Moving back to Africa’ – Nurse Judy relocates after 4 years in US

Nurse Judy has announced that she is temporarily relocating back home to Tanzania and Kenya after spending about four and a half years in California, opening up about the emotional toll of being separated from her husband and children.
In a post shared on Monday, September 28, 2026, the nurse said the decision has left her experiencing a mix of emotions as she prepares to reunite with her family and spend more time with them.
Nurse Judy recalls moving to US
Judy revealed that she moved to America about four and a half years ago after her marriage had briefly fallen apart for about two years.
At the time, she said she did not know what life had in store for her but knew she needed a fresh start.
Ten months after arriving in America, Judy obtained her green card, describing the development as something that happened quickly and left her feeling lucky and grateful.
She initially expected her husband and children to follow her soon, but their relocation process took much longer than anticipated.
Three years of waiting
Judy said the consular processing for her husband and children has now taken almost three years.
She described the period as one of repeatedly waiting for one stage to move to the next, followed by more waiting.
“We have tried to be patient. We have trusted the process. And we are still trusting the process,” she wrote.
However, the prolonged separation has taken an emotional toll on the family. Judy said she has cried many tears and experienced low moments simply because she missed her loved ones.
She recalled missing birthdays, ordinary days, hugs and moments with her children that could never be recreated.
Judy also spoke about waking up to voice notes from her daughter, Teiyan, crying because she missed her mother.
Choosing family time
The nurse said the experience eventually made her realise she could not continue putting her life with her family on hold while waiting for an unknown date.
“Watching my children grow through a phone screen,” she wrote, adding that no amount of money, career growth or opportunities could replace time with loved ones.
Judy said she made the decision several months ago to go home and plans to spend about five months being present with her family.
She said she wants to be a present mother and wife, and to wake up in the same house as her family.
Her temporary relocation comes as she prioritises reconnecting with her loved ones after years of living apart.
