Mosiria warns young women over dangers of meeting dating app strangers

He urged women to think about their safety before meeting people they have not known for a long time. He also advised them to avoid private apartments and unfamiliar places when meeting strangers.
“I also want to caution our young Kenyan women to be extremely careful when meeting people they have connected with through dating apps and social media. Avoid meeting strangers in private apartments or unfamiliar places, especially when you have not known them for long,” Mosiria said on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Mosiria explained that women should take steps to ensure someone they trust knows where they are going before meeting an online connection. He said sharing their location can also help keep them safe when meeting someone they first connected with online.
He encouraged women to choose places that are safe and public for their first meetings.
“Always let someone you trust know where you are going, share your location and, where possible, arrange the first meeting in a safe and public place,” Mosiria said.
Safety should come first
Mosiria said young women should put their safety first when meeting people they have connected with through dating apps and social media. He explained that they should remain careful, especially when meeting someone they have not known for long. His advice focused on taking simple steps before and during such meetings.
“Your safety comes first,” Mosiria said.
He also warned women against allowing anyone they meet to pressure them into doing something against their will. Mosiria explained that women should remain alert and protect themselves when dealing with people they have met through online platforms. He said no one should be allowed to threaten or force them into anything.
“Never allow anyone to pressure, threaten or force you into anything against your will. Stay vigilant and protect yourselves,” Mosiria said.
Mosiria said meeting in public places can help women remain in safer surroundings, particularly during a first meeting. He also reminded them to keep trusted people informed about their movements.
