Mosiria warns explicit TikTok Live users as accounts face possible consequences
By Paulette Mboga, August 31, 2026Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has warned TikTok users against engaging in explicit activities while broadcasting on TikTok Live, saying such actions can lead to account bans and may have consequences beyond losing access to the platform.
On Monday, August 31, 2026, he said users should think carefully about what they broadcast because such content can be recorded and reported.
Mosiria said he had earlier warned users that openly engaging in explicit activities on TikTok Live could result in their accounts being banned. He said the consequences could go beyond the loss of an account.
“I warned earlier that if you openly engage in s* activities while on TikTok Live, your account can be banned and the consequences may go beyond losing your account,” Mosiria said.
Concerns over explicit content
Mosiria said the accounts involved in the activities shown in the screenshots he shared had since been banned. He said the incident should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks social media can be used to openly broadcast such activities without consequences. He also warned users against exposing themselves or using vulgar and obscene language during Live sessions.
“Those who use TikTok Live to engage in explicit sexual activities, expose themselves, or use vulgar and obscene language should remember that such content can be recorded, reported and, where it amounts to an offence, become evidence for law enforcement,” Mosiria said.
He explained that users could face further consequences if the content amounts to an offence and they are investigated and charged. He said such a case could end up before a court of law. He added that those convicted could face consequences provided by law.
Mosiria also raised concerns about children accessing social media platforms. He said parents should not have to worry about their children accidentally coming across dirty and inappropriate content. He noted that some people now fear opening TikTok in public because they do not know what explicit content may suddenly appear on their screens.
“If you encounter such content, do not participate or encourage it. Screen-record it where appropriate, save the link to the account or LIVE, and report it through the appropriate channels,” Mosiria said.
“This is a warning. Respect the law. Protect our children, including yours and your family members. Use social media responsibly,” Mosiria said.
