Mosiria rejects anti-foreigner sentiments, says Kenya needs investors
By Paulette Mboga, September 12, 2026Nairobi County Chief Officer for Customer Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria has called on Kenyans to reject xenophobia and statements that seek to divide the country against foreigners who come to invest and contribute to the economy.
In a post on Instagram on Saturday, September 12, 2026, he said people who come to Kenya legally to invest, create jobs and support economic growth should be welcomed. Mosiria also described remarks targeting such investors as uncalled for and dangerous, while questioning why the authorities had not acted.
“Anyone who comes to Kenya legally to invest, create jobs, and support our growth should be welcomed. These remarks are uncalled for and dangerous, and I do not understand what the authorities are waiting for,” Mosiria said.
The remarks came as Mosiria defended foreign investors and urged Kenyans to focus on the contribution they make to the economy. He said the source of an investor’s money should only become an issue where there is evidence of wrongdoing through the proper legal channels.

He explained that what matters is whether an investment is creating opportunities, supporting businesses and contributing to the economy. He said Kenyans should not be divided against people who come to invest legally in the country.
“How someone got their money to invest in Kenya is not our business unless there is evidence of wrongdoing through the proper legal channels. What matters is that the investment is creating opportunities, supporting businesses, and contributing to our economy,” Mosiria said.
Mosiria further said that if there are people who should be held accountable, attention should instead be directed at those stealing from the economy. He also pointed to people misusing public resources and taking wealth outside the country instead of investing it back home.

He questioned why Kenyans would be angry with someone bringing money into the country, building businesses and helping young people get jobs. Mosiria said such investments should be seen as contributing to the country’s economic growth.
“Mtu analeta pesa Kenya, anajenga Kenya, anasaidia vijana kupata kazi unakasirika kwa nini?” Mosiria said.
Mosiria called for unity, peace and economic growth instead of hatred and division. He said Kenya welcomes responsible investors and urged the country to reject statements that promote xenophobia.
