Mosiria pledges 10% of salary to take artists battling addiction to rehab
By Paulette Mboga, September 27, 2026Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has pledged to set aside 10 per cent of his salary to help artists battling addiction access rehabilitation services.
Mosiria said he was willing to personally invest part of his earnings to support creatives struggling with addiction. His pledge comes after he called on the government to set aside funds to support artists facing addiction and mental health challenges.
Mosiria said he was ready to contribute financially towards helping artists who need rehabilitation. He explained that he wanted to support creatives facing addiction by using part of his salary to help them access the services they need.
“I am willing to support creative creators. I am willing to personally invest my salary, 10 per cent of my salary, to take those battling addictions to rehab,” Mosiria said in an interview on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The county official’s pledge follows his appeal to the government to consider setting aside a budget for Kenyan artists facing different challenges. He said artists have contributed to the country’s entertainment industry and helped put Kenya on the African and global map.
Mosiria calls for support for struggling artists
Mosiria had called on the government to establish a budget to support artists who are doing well in the industry as well as those struggling with addiction and mental health issues. He said creatives sacrifice a lot while entertaining people and deserve support when they face challenges.
“I also want to call upon the government to consider setting aside a budget to support Kenyan artists who are doing well in the industry, as well as those who are struggling with challenges such as addiction and mental health issues,” Mosiria said.
He proposed introducing structured programmes, health insurance, and welfare initiatives to help artists access medical care when they face difficulties. Mosiria said such support would help creatives dealing with addiction and mental health challenges receive assistance.
His personal pledge to dedicate 10 per cent of his salary to rehabilitation comes as part of his call for more support for artists struggling with addiction.
He said he was willing to use his own earnings to help those who need rehabilitation services and urged the government to consider setting aside funds for their welfare, while expressing his willingness to contribute towards rehabilitation for those battling addiction.
