Love Island USA’s Clarke Carraway reveals reason for her breakup with Taylor Williams

Love Island USA season seven star Clarke Carraway has opened up about her breakup with fellow Islander Taylor Williams, explaining why she felt their relationship was no longer right for her.

Clarke and Taylor confirmed their split in July, after developing a relationship during the reality show’s seventh season.

Speaking on Kaylor’s Crash Outs on Monday, September 21, Carraway told fellow Islander Kaylor Martin that Williams’ friendly nature towards other women was one of the issues she struggled with while they were together.

Clarke explains what caused the split

Clarke said Taylor was naturally friendly and polite, but she had different expectations when it came to relationships.

She explained she had previously asked Williams to change some of his behaviour because she wanted their relationship to have clear boundaries. “One of the things that I was asking him to fix: Taylor is super nice, super friendly. In a relationship, I run a strict programme. I don’t play that,” Clarke said.

Her comments came after rumours began circulating online that Taylor had been unfaithful. Clarke said she initially chose not to believe the rumours, even after receiving a direct message from someone claiming to have seen Williams with another woman.

Video changed Carraway’s view

According to Carraway, she asked Williams about the rumours when they first reached her but decided not to make a major issue out of them. She said her position changed after a video of Williams speaking to another woman began circulating online.

“I ignored the DMs. I asked him about it. ‘It’s cool, whatever.’ But to see the video come out, I’m here seeing it for the first time with everyone else,” she recalled.

Taylor Williams later explained that the woman in the video was a mutual friend and that there was no romantic relationship between them. However, Clarke Carraway said the explanation did not change how she felt about the situation.

‘I think about you every second’

Carraway said the issue was not simply whether Williams had been romantically involved with the woman, but how he behaved around other women while in a relationship.

She explained that she expected both partners to consider how their actions could affect the other person.

“Where he had an opportunity to move a little differently, he just stayed true to himself, right? All respect to you, but just the way that I move in a relationship, as I told you, ‘You’re the priority. I think about you every second,” she said.

Carraway also explained that she tries to think about how she would want her partner to behave if their positions were reversed. “If there’s a group of men that are approaching me, I just pretend I’m being filmed at all times. And even if I wasn’t, like, how would I want him to move?” she said.

Carraway says relationship was not the right fit

Clarke said the situation eventually made her question whether the relationship was right for her. Carraway explained that she believes relationships should give people a sense of trust rather than leave them constantly questioning what is happening.

“If there’s any questioning in any sort of relationship, whether that’s platonic or romantic, I don’t think that God would send someone my way, whether it’s a friend or someone I’m talking to, that I would question,” she said.

Before their breakup was confirmed, both Carraway and Williams appeared to address the rumours separately on social media. Carraway shared a series of solo photos on Instagram with the caption, “Intuition is my fave accessory.”

Williams, meanwhile, dismissed the online speculation in a Snapchat Story after a fan asked whether he had seen the rumours.

“I got better things to do with my time rather than respond to things that ain’t real. I got responsibilities and a busy life. I don’t have time to just sit and talk ’bout people,” Williams wrote.

How their Love Island romance began

Williams and Carraway first developed their relationship in Fiji during season seven of Love Island USA. Williams had initially explored a relationship with fellow Islander Olandria Carthen before choosing Carraway during a recoupling.

Carthen later coupled up with Nic Vansteenberghe, with the pair finishing second in the competition.

Carraway and Williams finished as fifth runners-up, while Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales were crowned the winners. Espinal and Arenales later ended their relationship.

Despite not winning the season, Taylor Williams said at the time that he was grateful for how things had turned out.

“Everything happens for a reason, so I can’t be mad at it. You know, I could be upset, but it’s like I can’t be absolutely mad because this happened for a reason,” Williams said.
