Kanyari: Unemployment is pushing young women into sexual exploitation
By Valerian Khakayi, August 19, 2026Vocal preacher Victor Kanyari has raised concern over unemployment and limited opportunities, saying economic hardships are pushing some young women into sexual exploitation.
Speaking during a church service on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Salvation Healing Ministry, Kanyari said the situation was painful and called for deliberate efforts to create jobs and empower young people to prevent them from being forced into desperate circumstances.
“It’s painful how unemployment and lack of opportunities pushed this girl into sexual exploitation,” Kanyari said.
The Kasarani parliamentary aspirant said addressing unemployment should go beyond creating jobs, arguing that young people also need opportunities that restore their confidence and ability to build sustainable livelihoods.
“We must create jobs, empower our youth, and restore hope, dignity, and a better future,” he said.

Women’s empowerment
Kanyari had earlier stated that women deserve to be heard and pledged to ensure their voices are reflected in decisions and development if elected.
He explained that he is committed to listening to women and working with them to find practical solutions to the challenges they face. Kanyari said he wants women to have a stronger place in leadership and development within the constituency if he is allowed to serve.
“The voices of the women of Kasarani have been heard. Your concerns, your dreams, and your determination matter,” Kanyari said on Friday, July 24, 2026.
“I am committed to listening and working with you to find practical solutions.”
Kanyari also said his leadership would focus on ensuring that women are respected and empowered. He added that their views should not only be heard but should also lead to meaningful action that improves their lives.

Kanyari on his personal struggle
Kanyari made the remarks while highlighting the challenges facing young people struggling to make ends meet amid limited economic opportunities.
He said his own upbringing had shaped his understanding of the difficulties experienced by people from humble backgrounds.
“I was born and raised in a humble background, so I understand the pain of struggling,” Kanyari said.
The Kasarani parliamentary aspirant said his personal experiences had also influenced his desire to support people facing economic hardship.
“That’s why I have a heart for giving. I want to serve, empower, and uplift the people of Kasarani,” he said.
