Kamulu cancer patient Risper Wambui heads to India after TikTokers raise Ksh2.6M
By Katemarthason Okudo, August 25, 2026Kamulu teenager Risper Wambui has left Kenya for India to begin specialised treatment for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour (GIST) cancer after a fundraising drive helped raise money for her medical care.
Risper departed for India on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026, accompanied by her mother, Mercy Muraya. She is expected to receive treatment at Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai.
Risper heads to India
Community Volunteer Leader and Kajiado West 2027 parliamentary aspirant Samuel Sane joined Karangu Muraya, Dennis Njuguna, popularly known as Uria Wari Cukura ya Nairobi, Mr David Muraya and Risper’s family in escorting Risper and her mother to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Sane, who also serves as the Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai Kenya representative, said Risper’s departure marked an important step in her treatment journey. “Today marks an important step in Risper’s journey toward treatment and recovery. We remain hopeful and continue to stand with her and her family,” Sane said.
Risper expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her through the fundraising campaign, saying the financial contributions, prayers and encouragement had helped make her trip possible.
She thanked those who contributed to her medical journey, including friends, family members, well-wishers and supporters. “I sincerely thank every well-wisher, friend, family member, and supporter who contributed through prayers, encouragement, and financial support. Your generosity has helped make this journey possible,” she said.
TikTokers raise Ksh2.6 million
Risper’s trip to India was made possible after TikTokers came together to raise money for her treatment. Within two days, content creators had raised Ksh2.6 million towards her medical expenses and travel.
TikToker MC Chris Kirubi Junior announced the milestone in a TikTok post on Monday, August 17, 2026, after more creators joined the fundraising efforts. He said the amount had been reached after several TikTokers spent days encouraging their followers to contribute towards Risper’s treatment.
“2.6 million done for Risper. Ndio tumetoka TikTok saa hii saa hii. Nimelala sasa,” he wrote. The fundraising efforts came after several content creators used their platforms to draw attention to Risper’s condition and the need for financial support.
Earlier fundraiser had low turnout
Before the TikTok campaign gained momentum, another fundraiser organised to support Risper had struggled to attract the expected number of people. TikToker Vincent Kaluma, popularly known as Kaluma Boy, had mobilised Kenyans and fellow content creators to attend the fundraiser held in July.
In an update shared on Facebook on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Kaluma expressed disappointment over the low turnout but said he would continue supporting the teenager. Despite the small number of people who attended, he maintained that the situation would not stop him from standing with Risper and supporting her medical journey.
Risper’s departure now marks a new stage in her treatment as she begins specialised care in India. Her family and supporters have continued to appeal for prayers as she starts treatment for GIST cancer.
