Jules questions why some men still think nyama choma is the perfect first date

On Friday, July 31, 2026, she shared her thoughts while reflecting on her experience after returning to the dating scene, saying she was surprised that some people still viewed it as the best way to impress someone.
Jules explained that she returned to dating in 2025 after spending some time in a relationship. She said the experience made her realise that she was not connecting with some of the older men she met because they did not share the same interests.
“This is when it hit me. It hit me like, sometimes last year, which was 2025, and I was like… because this is when I had just come back into the dating pool. I had been in it for a while, cuffed up for a while,” Jules said.
Changing expectations in dating
Jules said she noticed that many of the older men she dated were not interested in the same things she enjoyed. She explained that she felt there was a gap when it came to music, culture and other interests that mattered to her.
“The thing with these people around older, because I would date older, not like my age exact I would like… you know… I feel like they are just not tapped into the things I like. So music, not tapped in, culture, not tapped in,” Jules said.
She said one conversation stood out because someone told her that taking a woman for nyama choma was the best way to judge whether she was the right partner. Jules explained that the comment left her wondering if that approach was still common.
“They want to take you to nyama choma, like literally, I was told, me if I want to pima a babe I would take her for nyama choma… whatever it was… and I was like, sorry? This has changed?” Jules said.
Jules also recalled discussing the issue with a younger person. She said the person suggested that men around her age often do not take care of themselves physically, a comment that made her stop and think about her own experiences.
“And the person I was telling this story was younger and they said, guys your age, Jules are… they don’t take care of themselves esp like physically, and I thought about it,” Jules said.
