Journalist Rose Mbugua buried following tragic Uhuru Highway accident

The solemn final farewell service on Friday, July 24, 2026, took place at her family residence in Limuru, exactly one week after the 24-year-old storyteller lost her life.
Mourners began arriving as early as 8:00 am for morning prayers and a final body viewing.
In a unified and deeply personal tribute, many in attendance wore purple – the official theme colour chosen for the day to honour her vibrant personality, creativity, and rising presence in the Kenyan media landscape.
The devastating accident occurred on the evening of Friday, July 17, 2026, along Uhuru Highway, right near the busy University Way and University of Nairobi roundabout.
According to preliminary police reports, Rose was traveling as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle when the rider hit a pavement curb and lost control of the bike.
The motorcycle subsequently collided with a concrete mixer truck, causing Rose to suffer fatal head injuries at the scene.
During the emotional funeral service, former colleagues and industry peers took to the podium to deliver moving eulogies, remembering Rose as an exceptionally gifted professional whose career was on a steep upward trajectory.
