Jeff Koinange shares sweet birthday message as little-known son turns 19

Veteran Kenyan journalist and media personality Jeff Koinange has celebrated his little-known son as he turned 19, sharing a heartfelt birthday message dedicated to him.
In a Facebook post shared on Friday, July 31, 2026, Jeff is seen posing alongside his son in a series of photos as he marked the young man’s special day.
While sharing the photos, Jeff prayed that his son’s special day would be a great one and asked God to always guide him and shower him with His blessings.
“Happy 19th, Son… Have a Great Day…God bless you always!” Jeff wrote.
In the photos, Jeff’s son is seen sporting baby locks, a purple polo shirt and a sweater fashionably tied around his neck as he poses alongside his father.
Jeff, on his part, is seen holding a cup of coffee while standing next to his son, dressed in a black full-neck sweater.
The father and son appeared relaxed as they posed for the photos, with the images capturing a rare moment between the two.
In one of the pictures, Jeff’s son appears to have taken the selfie himself, holding the phone as he poses with his father. Jeff is seen with his arms around his son’s shoulders as the two smile for the camera.
Another photo appears to have been taken by Jeff, with the veteran journalist holding his coffee as he poses alongside his son.
Father’s tribute
The birthday message came days after Jeff paid tribute to his late father, Frederick Mbiyu Koinange, marking 60 years since his passing.
In a social media post shared in March 2026, the veteran journalist remembered his father with a heartfelt message, describing him as a special man and asking him to continue resting with the angels until they meet again.
“A SPECIAL day for a SPECIAL man… It’s been 60 years since you left us to be with the Lord… Keep resting with the angels, Frederick Mbiyu Koinange… Until we meet again!” he wrote.
Jeff and members of his family also visited his father’s burial site, where they laid flowers in his honour and reflected on his life and legacy.
Frederick Mbiyu Koinange was a Kenyan businessman and public figure from the prominent Koinange family.
He was the son of Senior Chief Koinange wa Mbiyu and the brother of Mbiyu Koinange, who served as a minister in the government of Kenya’s first President, Jomo Kenyatta.
Frederick was among the first Africans to own and operate a petrol station and car dealership in Nairobi, making a name for himself in a sector that was largely dominated by foreigners at the time.
He died in 1966 when Jeff was still a baby, meaning the celebrated journalist grew up without the opportunity to know his father personally. Over the years, Jeff has occasionally spoken about the impact of losing his father at such a young age while also expressing pride in the legacy he left behind.
