Jaymo Ule Msee backs Nairobi underground railway line, praises Sakaja’s bold vision

Social media personality Wilson Muirani Gathoni, widely known as Jaymo Ule Msee, has thrown his weight behind Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s proposal to develop an underground railway line, describing it as a bold vision that could transform the capital for generations.
In a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Jaymo praised Sakaja for daring to imagine a different future for Nairobi, saying major infrastructure projects should be celebrated regardless of political affiliations.
“I celebrate Governor Sakaja Johnson and everyone bold enough to imagine a different Nairobi,” Jaymo wrote.
“A better Nairobi is not built by speeches; it is built by vision, planning and execution. Hongera Governor Sakaja. May this be remembered as one of the bold steps toward making Nairobi a world-class African capital. The Nairobi we dream of is possible if we choose to build it together.”
According to Jaymo, an underground railway would go beyond improving transport, saying it has the potential to restore time, dignity and economic opportunities for city residents.
“An underground railway is not just about trains; it is about giving people back time, dignity and opportunity,” he added.
Painting a picture of what such a project could achieve, Jaymo said a modern railway system would allow Nairobi residents to spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with their families.
He also argued that businesses would benefit from faster movement of customers and goods, while investors would gain confidence in a city planning for the future.
Additionally, he further noted that cleaner public transport could improve air quality for future generations, adding that efficient transport systems stimulate economic growth by creating jobs, supporting businesses and increasing household incomes.
Jaymo also urged Kenyans to embrace long-term development projects instead of dismissing ambitious ideas because of politics.
As leaders and citizens, let us learn to celebrate ideas that outlive politics. Elections come and go, but infrastructure serves generations.

Nairobi underground railway line
Jaymo’s remarks come after the Nairobi County Executive Committee approved the implementation framework for Phase I of the Nairobi Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transit System (NMRTS).
The first phase of the project will feature an underground railway through Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) and the Eastlands Line, one of the city’s busiest commuter corridors.
According to Sakaja, the project marks the transition from planning to implementation and is aimed at delivering a modern, fast, safe and dignified public transport system while easing traffic congestion and boosting economic growth. Planning for the second phase is also expected to extend the network to Westlands, Ngong Road and Lang’ata Road.
“For far too long, the people of Nairobi, particularly our hard-working commuters from Eastlands and across the metropolitan area, have lost precious hours in traffic jams that slow down our economic growth,” he said.
“Today, we are moving from planning to implementation. The approval of Phase I of the NMRTS is our commitment to delivering a modern, fast, safe and dignified public transport system. By integrating an underground CBD core with high-capacity links to Eastlands, we will unlock Nairobi’s economic potential, lower the cost of transport and build a cleaner, greener and world-class city.”
