Janet Mbugua shares thoughts on women who are not considering motherhood

She explained that having such feelings does not make them bad mothers but simply honest about their experiences.
The media personality said she would choose motherhood again because of her own experience. At the same time, she acknowledged that other loving mothers may answer the same question differently, and she respects their views.
“I would choose this life again. But I know women who wouldn’t, and they’re not bad mothers for saying it. An honest conversation on whether mothers would choose motherhood again,” Janet Mbugua said on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Janet explained that discussions about motherhood should allow women to express how they truly feel. She suggested that mothers should be able to speak openly without fear of being judged.
Making room for honest conversations
“Right now, I am a mom; I have two sons I am obsessed with, and I would do this again, and I know a lot of mothers, present mothers. Loving mothers who would answer that question differently. It doesn’t make them bad mothers; I just think it makes them honest ones,” Janet Mbugua said.
She explained that her own experience as a mother has been meaningful to her and that she would make the same choice again. However, she said she also knows mothers who love their children but would not make the same decision if given another chance.
Janet said women should be allowed to speak honestly about motherhood without being misunderstood. According to her, giving a different answer does not mean a mother loves her children any less.
“Culture does not give mothers just room to be. It is not about the children being a mistake. I don’t think it is foolish for women to say I would choose being child-free,” Janet Mbugua said.
She explained that, in her view, choosing not to have children should not be looked down upon. Janet said women should have the freedom to express whether motherhood was the right path for them without being criticised.
“I would choose this life again. But I know women who wouldn’t, and they’re not bad mothers for saying it,” Janet Mbugua said.
Janet’s comments highlighted her belief that motherhood is a personal experience. While she remains grateful for being a mother to her two sons, she said she also understands women who would have made a different choice and believes their honesty should be respected.
