‘I’m proud of the person I see’ – Kinuthia reflects on journey to self-acceptance and his sexuality
By Katemarthason Okudo, August 24, 2026Kenyan content creator Kelvin Kinuthia has opened up about his journey to self-acceptance, reflecting on the criticism he has faced over his appearance, personality and sexuality.
In a post shared on Instagram on Sunday, August 23, 2026, Kinuthia said he had reached a point where he was comfortable with who he was, despite others’ opinions. “I’m so proud of the girl I’m becoming,” he wrote.
The content creator said there was a time when comments from other people made him question himself and wonder whether he was too different, loud, soft or feminine.
He said he had been judged, misunderstood and criticised, with some people making him feel that he needed to change to make others comfortable.
Kinuthia on accepting himself
Looking back, Kinuthia said he now sees growth after going through experiences that at times affected how he viewed himself. “But today, I look at myself, and I see growth,” he said, adding that he had survived the opinions, criticism and moments that nearly made him doubt his worth.
Kinuthia also addressed the conversations around his sexuality, acknowledging that some people may not understand or accept his identity.
He said he had learnt that his life did not need to be a subject of debate and that he did not owe anyone an explanation about who he is. “My identity is not something I owe anyone an explanation for, and my happiness does not require anyone’s permission,” he stated.
The content creator said he was learning to embrace every part of himself, including aspects that others had tried to shame him for. He added that being authentic was more important to him than being accepted for a version of himself that was not genuine.
Mosiria previously questioned Kinuthia’s dressing
Earlier, Nairobi County CEC for Customer Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria publicly questioned his decision to dress in feminine clothing. In a TikTok video shared earlier, Mosiria challenged Kinuthia to explain whether his dressing style was purely part of his content creation.
The county official argued that Kinuthia should not continue using content creation as an explanation for his feminine appearance, saying he was concerned about the influence such presentation could have on younger people.
Mosiria also questioned Kinuthia’s use of women’s clothing, feminine hairstyles, nails and mannerisms. He further claimed that he had encountered young boys from Kisii who dressed like women and identified Kinuthia as their mentor.
Choosing authenticity
Despite the criticism, Kinuthia said he was focused on continuing to grow and live according to his values. “I’m still healing, still learning, still growing and still becoming. But damn… I’m proud of the person I see in the mirror today,” he wrote.
He thanked those who had supported him while also acknowledging that not everyone would understand his choices.
Kinuthia concluded by saying he would continue choosing happiness and authenticity rather than making himself smaller to fit into places where he did not feel accepted. “And if my existence makes you uncomfortable, that’s okay. I’ll still keep living, loving and shining as me,” he stated.
