I’m not offering any loans: Oga Obinna exposes conman impersonating him

Media personality Steve Thompson Maghana, widely known as Oga Obinna, has warned his followers to be on high alert after discovering that a conman is impersonating him on social media to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The entertainer took to his social media pages on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, to expose the fake account, sharing screenshots of the impersonator’s posts while urging fans not to fall for the scam.
“Guys, this is a CONMAN. TREAD CAREFULLY. I REPEAT, I’M NOT OFFERING ANY LOANS OR GIVING OUT ANY MONEY ANYWHERE,” Obinna wrote.
According to the media personality, the individual behind the fake account has been using his identity to lure social media users with promises of loans and financial assistance, only to con them out of their money.
To back up his warning, Obinna shared screenshots of the impersonator’s social media posts, giving his followers a closer look at the fraudulent account and the messages being circulated online.
He stressed that he is not running any loan programs, offering financial aid, or giving out money through any of his social media platforms. Obinna urged members of the public to verify any information shared in his name through his official accounts before engaging with it or sending money.
The comedian also had a stern message for the fraudster, warning that they would eventually be held accountable for using his name to deceive innocent people.
“Hawa wa kuendelea kutumia jina yangu kuibia watu, sooner or later tutapatana tu, endeleeni,” he warned.

His warning comes amid a growing number of cases in which fraudsters create fake social media accounts using the names and photos of celebrities, politicians, and other public figures to trick unsuspecting users into sending money or sharing sensitive personal information.
Cybersecurity experts have repeatedly advised social media users to be cautious of accounts promising quick loans, giveaways, or investment opportunities, especially when they request upfront payments or personal details.
Obinna’s post has since attracted reactions from fans, with many commending him for speaking out and alerting the public before more people fall victim to the scam. Others urged social media users to report the fake account to help prevent further cases of impersonation and online fraud.
