Guardian Angel opens up on losing church gigs after marrying Esther Musila
By Katemarthason Okudo, July 25, 2026Gospel musician Guardian Angel has opened up about the backlash he faced after marrying his wife, Esther Musila, revealing that the decision cost him church ministry opportunities and left him feeling rejected by some people within the church.
Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, July 24, 2026, the singer said his marriage to an older woman attracted criticism from members of the Christian community, despite believing he had made the right decision for his life.
Guardian Angel explained that many people questioned his choice of partner, something he says eventually affected his music ministry.
Says marriage changed how churches viewed him
The gospel singer said he noticed a significant change in how he was treated after getting married. According to him, he had previously been fully booked with church events throughout the week, but the invitations stopped shortly after his wedding.

Before sharing his experience, Guardian Angel reflected on how he unexpectedly found acceptance outside the church during one of the most difficult moments in his life.
“Have you ever found love outside the church instead of inside it?” Guardian Angel asked as he spoke about the rejection he experienced after marrying Esther Musila.
He went on to explain that some church members were uncomfortable with the age difference between him and his wife. “The wife I married is older than me. I received a lot of criticism from people in church,” he said.
Reveals church invitations stopped
Guardian Angel disclosed that the criticism eventually affected his career as a gospel minister, saying churches that had previously invited him to perform gradually stopped reaching out.

He added that he was also left out of meetings he had once attended regularly. “Before that, I was busy every single week. I performed at church events from Monday to Monday. After I got married, the calls stopped. They excluded me from their meetings, and they replaced me,” he revealed.
Despite the challenges, the musician suggested that the experience taught him valuable lessons about acceptance and genuine support.
Marriage has remained strong
Guardian Angel and Esther Musila have continued to share moments from their marriage despite facing criticism since publicly announcing their relationship.
The couple’s age difference sparked widespread debate on social media and within some religious circles when they got married. However, they have consistently maintained that their relationship is built on love, respect and understanding.
