George Ruto explains why his father’s name makes business easier and harder

On Monday, August 24, 2026, he said the experience comes with both advantages and challenges, especially because of his age. George explained that young people often struggle to get their ideas accepted because they are seen as lacking experience.
“Yes and no. Yes, not because I am the son of the president but because of my age…,” George Ruto said.
George explained that the challenge is not only linked to being the president’s son. He said young people in general face difficulties when trying to present their ideas and convince others to believe in them. He noted that their age can make it harder for people to trust what they are proposing.
“You know the youth we are really shunned upon; it is really difficult to put your ideas out there for someone to believe in them,” George Ruto said.
He said one of the main reasons young people face this challenge is because they do not have enough experience. George explained that people can question their ideas because of their age and may not be ready to believe in what they are trying to build. He said this is one of the realities young people have to deal with.
“Because you don’t have experience, but because of my second name, there is a bit of insurance that comes with it,” George Ruto said.
The weight of his second name
George said his second name gives him a level of confidence when putting his ideas forward. He explained that having the name of the president as part of his identity can provide some form of assurance when he is engaging with people. At the same time, he said this is one reason he takes time before committing to a venture.
George explained that he does not rush into certain ventures because of the position that comes with his name. He said he considers the situation before deciding to get involved in a particular business idea. His comments showed that he sees the name as both a benefit and a responsibility.
“That is why I take time before I engage in a certain venture. So yes and no,” George Ruto said.
George’s remarks came in response to a question on whether he feels he has to put in double the effort because he is the president’s son. He said his answer was both yes and no, explaining that the issue is also tied to the challenges faced by young people.
