Family announces funeral date for Nigerian actor Alexx Ekubo
By Valerian Khakayi, June 17, 2026The family of Nigerian actor Alexx Ekubo has announced funeral arrangements, inviting family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to join in honouring his life this week.
According to the notice, a wakekeep will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 7 Ekubo-Okwareke Avenue, Aziukwukwa Ujari Village, Arochukwu in Abia State.
The funeral service and reception will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Mary Slessor School Field in Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
Interment will follow at the family house located at 7 Ekubo-Okwareke Avenue, Aziukwukwa Ujari Village, Arochukwu.
The family expressed gratitude for the support, prayers, and condolences received during this difficult period, describing the late actor as a beloved figure whose life was marked by love, kindness, and lasting memories.
“In loving memory of our beloved Alexx Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke, we respectfully remind family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers of the funeral arrangements taking place this week,” the statement reads.

They added that while he may be gone, his legacy and the impact of his life will continue to be remembered.

“A beautiful soul may depart this world, but the impact of a life well lived remains forever.”
Alexx’s death
His family confirmed his death, saying he passed away after a brief battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the family revealed that Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital after complications from the illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke. After a brief but courageous battle, Alexx passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer,” the statement read in part.
Known for his charm and versatility, Alexx Ekubo built a successful career in Nollywood and became one of the industry’s most recognised faces.
Over the years, he featured in numerous films and television productions, earning praise for his acting skills and connection with audiences.
