DJ Krowbar in tears as he marks what would have been his 17th wedding anniversary
By Valerian Khakayi, September 3, 2026Award-winning gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, has emotionally remembered his late wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, as he marked what would have been their 17th wedding anniversary.
Taking to social media on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Krowbar shared photos from the couple’s last date together, which took place around the same time last year.
He recalled that Joyce had been discharged from hospital just a few weeks after undergoing a transplant procedure and was still recovering, with the effects of the treatment visible on her face.
“These images were taken last year on a day like today. My wife had just been discharged from her transplant procedure a few weeks before, and you can notice she is a bit swollen in her face,” he wrote.
The couple had been celebrating their anniversary but could not visit any public places because Joyce’s immunity was still low.
“It was our anniversary, and we were not allowed to go to any public spaces because her immunity was low,” Krowbar explained.
Instead, the couple found a simple but special way to spend the day together. They bought Joyce’s favourite sandwich from Java before heading to the tea farms, where they spent time reflecting on their journey and the future they hoped to share.
“This was the last date we ever had, and it was the best date that year. We bought her favourite sandwich from Java, and we went to chill at the tea farms and thanked God for the many years and the years ahead,” he said.
Looking back at the day, Krowbar expressed gratitude that he was fully present and able to cherish every moment they spent together.
“I am grateful, deeply grateful, that God allowed me to be so aware because I really savoured this day,” he wrote.
The memories became even more emotional as Krowbar revealed that Thursday, September 3, would have marked their 17th wedding anniversary.
“Today would have been our 17th anniversary,” he wrote, accompanied by crying emojis.
Struggling to come to terms with the loss of his wife, Krowbar added, “Gosh, am I not going to miss this girl! Weuh!”
Joyce passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 3 a.m., after a long and challenging medical journey. Her death left Krowbar grieving the woman with whom he had shared years of love and memories.
